Guest guest Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 Hi, I'm . I am doing some research for my husband. In June 2003 he stepped in a hole at work, and had progressive severe back pain. After numerous different diangoses, he had back surgery in Dec for a herniated disc. It gave him no relief. He had physical therapy and epidurals. He had spinal fusion in June of 2005 which gave him relief for exactly one month. As soon as he started physical therapy-- that was the end of it. He has been in constant pain in his back and down L. leg with muscle spasms, but now the doctors say they can't do anymore surgically because they don't know where the pain in comming from. They are recommending a spinal cord stimulator, so we wanted to find out more info. We have about a month to make this dicision. I'm glad I found this spot. Quote
Guest guest Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 >Hi , you have come to the right place. I wish my doctor in the US would have suggested the SCS for me before I had my fusion. I was in the same boat as your husband, severe back pain and left leg pain. The leg pain is caused by injury to his sciatic nerve. I have documented my surgery and progress over the summer which I hope will help. The SCS has made a treamendous difference for me. The most important thing to make sure of is the competence of the doctor. Finding the spot for placement of the leads is critical and only a very experienced and qualified doctor should do it. Good Luck, Bernadette > Hi, I'm . I am doing some research for my husband. In June > 2003 he stepped in a hole at work, and had progressive severe back > pain. > Quote
Guest guest Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 The not knowing is the worst. I know exactly how you feel. I spent all December after my lumbar fusion waiting to hear what the problem was and how they were going to treat it. That is the pits! Re: Spinal Cord Stimulators I think it's just because I'm not sure about all of this. After a week ago having the bilateral branch blocks and then on Friday being told they didn't work, I'm really down right now. Waiting for doctors to have a meeting about me makes it even harder. Wondering how long it will be before I hear something. > > i've had no problem with mine other then killing a battery and having to > have a new one my battery is surgically implanted on my lower left side hid > under my fluff ( fat ) the type i have i have surgery to replace my battery > about every 5 to 7 years but my scs has really giving me back some of my > independence it controlls the pain enough that i am no longer in a wheelchair and > i can walk again > **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. > Dining, Movies, Events, News & more. Guest guest Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 WAY TO GO, LISA!!! I am thrilled to hear about your apartment!! " Home Sweet Apartment " !!! That is great! Thank God for your sister's great and awesome news!!! I am so happy for her and for your family. You DON " T give yourself enough credit, my dear. Everyone is different...and just because it took you a wee bit longer to recuperate than Margie doesn't make her any stronger than you...just different. You, my dear, are an amazing strong and beautiful person!! That is great about the church helping you out! You see...they see what kind of awesome and special person you are too!! You are SO right...you are going to make it on your own...hell, .. ..You ARE MAKING IT ON YOUR OWN ALREADY!!! You should be very, very proud of yourself...I know that I am so proud of you!!! As far as Greg goes...once an idiot, always an idiot. Can you imagine how surprised he must be about you standing up for yourself and doing all that you have done...without any help from the likes of him?? They say that happiness is the BEST revenge....boy are they RIGHT!!! LOL AS for me...pain is still pretty bad. Just hit my damned head again on the sink after passing out in the bathroom from the damned pain when standing too long at the sink....you know brushing the teeth and washing my face and hands...it is a bit rediculous when I can't even do that without an issue....but it will get better..and this time no stiches were needed...so that is better already. I am always going to be an optimist...lol You keep up the great and incredible work, . Miss you and know I think of you all the time. Love,. Kathy G. Guest guest Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 --Hay Kathy !!! You are so sweet,,, thanks for all the prayers and thinking of me,,,, My sister is doing real good,,, they brought her to our local hospital on Tues for rehab. She has no short term memory ,, she cant remember what happened or what she did even five minutes ago.. But her pain isnt bad at all,, What the Dr thought was a tumor turned out to be dead brain matter,He decribed it as crust, said he kinda lifted it and cut around it and it popped right off. She was only in surgery 3 1/2 hrs,,, was expected to be in 8 - 14 hrs. so we were kinda worried whrn he came out early,, But Margie is remarkable,,, so much stronger then I could ever be.,, I know when I had brain surgery back in " 95 " ,,, i was in a world of hurt for many weeks... So she is doing great !!! thanks again for all the prayers,,, as we all know,,, prayers do help !!! As far as I go,,, im doing pretty good,,cant really complain !!!My little apt. is starting to look like MY home ,,,lol...I had been having problems with my bed,,, Greg made me take the queen bed he had bought years ago that I couldnt sleep on from day 1... so I had been sleeping in the recliner,,, well Tues a church group here in town brought me a bed ,dresser and a small desk !!!!... The bed is a twin, which fits in my little room a lot better,,,,I did have to buy a foam topper ,, but its gonna be much better !!!! As far as Greg goes.... hes still an a------,,, but thats nothing new... he hasnt been bothering me at all... I guess im lucky lol... but when I need money I call and most of the time he does give me a little,,, He says he is broke from paying Dr bills,, but I know better,,, I see his truck at the Moose club every Fri and Sat.. I guess he thinks im really stupid,,, I know him much to well,,,lol But anyway,,, Im doing great !!!Im gonna make it on my own,,, I was scared to begain with but not anymore,,, Thanks to friends like you,,,, Hope your feeling better then you were the last time we talked,,, please let me know how your doing sweetie,,, I pray for all my scs friends everyday,,, soft hugs and Love you lots !!!!! Guest guest Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 I had my scs implanted permanently oct 16th. So far no problems except I'm allergic to the tape they use to protect the area, my back is sore but thats to be excepted. I go back to dr's in two months, Spinal Cord Stimulators Reading what everyone here is saying about SCS, kind of scares me right now. If there's problems with them, I don't want more problems in my life. I thought they were supposed to relieve you from pain, not add more to your life. I'm thinking now i may not want one afterall. Guest guest Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Carol I have issues with the tape also. I move the tape each time I changed the dressings.....left me with lots of red sore areas, but in the end it was worth it to have n keep the stimulator! Most importantly that darn tape kept the bandages on so I could avoid a nasty infection.... Guest guest Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 I also am very allergic to tape. My doctor uses a spray adhesive rather than tape. It protects the area without burning my skin off. Dorothy Quote
Guest guest Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Dr tried the adhesive on me but that didn't cut it....the incision didn't close n I got an infection that wouldn't go away so the stimulator had to be removed until I completely healed. Yes I had another put in....it was that good!!!!! Sent from my iPhone On Oct 24, 2008, at 2:14 PM, " Dorothy Ratz " <dotratz@...> wrote: I also am very allergic to tape. Guest guest Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 have them use skin prep under any kind of adhesive tape it really helps to keep you from getting sore that's what i make sure they do on me **************Play online games for FREE at Games.com! Guest guest Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Congrats on the success with the stimulator. I have big time issues with any of the tape other than the paper stuff. I had them use the clear plastic sheets over my bandage the last time that I had surgery to hold the bandage in place. I did not react to that. I am glad this came up. I had forgotten about me breaking out from that mess. I will remember to tell the doc. I can tolerate the tape if it is on me only a few minutes like for blood work etc. However, I break out something awful if they leave it on for a dressing.
