Hi Joan,

I was on 800mg for over 3 years (now on BMS).....I always split my dose up,

otherwise too hard on my stomach. I do know one person who does take all

800mg at the same time....but most do not. Gleevec has a long half life, so

the dosing schedule does not matter, just approx the same time each day.

Also, why are you getting 100mg pills instead of the 400mg pill...and

taking 2 of these for your dose? Most people do have more side effects with

the larger dose. If you are not a large breakfast eater, why not take 400mg

at lunch and 400mg at dinner (if these are bigger meals). You might just

have to experiment a bit.

I am on 800mg too, being one 400mg tablet twice a day, morning and at dinner

time. My haemotologist instructed me not to take both tablets at once because

of toxicity, he said my body wouldn't be able to deal with such a dose at one

time and there isn't any need for it.

Hi Joan,

My husband has been taking 800mg/day since he was diagnosed in 2003. He

splits his between breakfast and dinner. For breakfast he usually has two eggs

and a glass of orange juice and that generally works well for staving off the

" yuckies " , as he calls it. Cereal with milk makes the nausea worse as does

toast or some other bread type food without any protein, like eggs or sausage.

Everyone is a little different, so experiment with what foods seem to work best

for you. He's had both the 400mg and the 100mg tablets and actually prefers to

take 4 100mg tablets with his meals. This allows him to spread the dose out

over the meal. Even so, he still has days where no matter what he does, he gets

some nausea and the chills after he eats. Nothing terrible, but enough to make

him feel bad. The feeling usually passes within an hour and then he's fine.

Hope this helps.

breaking the dose daily like that? Also do you think it would be better

me nausea and starts my day off feeling bad. Any suggestions. The

puffiness has returned along with the out of body experience somewhat.

Hi all,

Thanks for the feedback on splitting 800mg. I find that if I eat fruit

for breakfast it is bad. Yogurt so far has been the best. I am not use

to a big breakfast, but I may have to eat more in the morning. Thank

you all for the feedback. I am going to continue to split it for awhile.

Hi Everyone

Thought I'd chime in here, as Ted takes his 800mg all at once at

lunchtime and has done since June. He doesn't normally have a big meal

then, but 2 weetabix with milk is ideal for him. Holding steady at PCR

0.33.
