concerning FISH test

In response to the question about having a F.I.S.H. test: this is a necessary

test (and should be requested by ALL people diagnosed with NHL) in determining

exactly what kind of lymphoma is present. I was diagnosed with MCL (treatment

much different than for SLL), and the FISH test determined that I have SLL

instead. The two lymphomas are difficult to distinguish, and the FISH test is

necessary to get an accurate diagnosis. Without an accurate diagnosis the

patient could be given the wrong kind of treatment for his/her disease. So do

not be afraid of the test - be glad the doctor knows enough to require it! I

had to go to a research hospital to get accurately diagnosed. Glad I asked for

(and got) a second opinion!!!!! That's another thing I would suggest for all

newly-diagnosed patients: GET A SECOND OPINION! Biopsy slides can be sent to

any research facility at the patient's request.

Because of my original diagnosis (MISdiagnosis!), I am on an MCL website as well

as this one. Both sites are very helpful. We need to keep this one going as

much important information comes from other patients or caregivers. Blessings

to you all. Bettie
