Guest guest Posted July 15, 2006 Report Posted July 15, 2006 Hi Hope, I am quickly checking email before I head out on vacation. I will briefly answer your questions, but fell free to ask me more, I just will not be able to respond for a few days. When we began TL (Therapeutic Listening) I wasn't sure what to expect. Her SLP who worked with an OT, Shelia Frick for years, said Isabella would benefit with TL. We started out doing anywhere from 15-30 minutes 2x/day. We listen everyday. We noticed changes almost immediately, from things like knowing where she was in space, improved motor control, longer attention span, many more vocalizations and attempts (Isabella speaks only about 20-25 words, but it is improving daily), more energy (with TL your whole body is getting a good vestibular workout). I am sure there were other things, I'll have to check my notes. FYI, Bella's therapist begins the music in her office watching her Reponses before deciding how long she will listen. Bella normally listens to the cd for 2 weeks, depending upon which cd it is and what we want it to do for her. The last question, for life, no. Sometimes though parents find that there is one specific CD that really helps to calm or motivate their child, so they will have their child listen (once they've completed the program) just b/c they know that CD really helps to stimulate their child as needed. As far as making progress after the program ends, I say yes, you get your child where you want them to be before you end the program. We have been doing TL since the beginning of March. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have further questions. Caroline Quote
