Guest guest Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Hi everyone. I am a new member. I am the proud mom of Emilee 3 1/2 with DS and 2 1/2 without. I am also a working mom, I am a firefighter/paramedic for a regional fire department. My husband and I are quite busy keeping up with these two. Emilee was born with complete AVSD canal which was surgically repaired at Miami Children's Hospital when she was barely 8 weeks old. She has had a clean bill of health ever since. Emilee is currently enrolled in a reverse mainstream program at our local elementary school. She is anxiously awaiting the start of the school year. She attended public school from her third birthday (october) until summer. She made amazing progress in such a short amount of time and we can't wait to see what the new year will bring. Her sister has been such a huge help, although if she actually knew she was helping, she might just freak out. She is at that age where helping actually causes her physical pain. Emilee is picking up her good (and bad) habits with ease. has also benefitted from Emilee too. She got to attend all her therapy sessions and at barely 2 1/2, she has more words in her vocabulary than most big kids twice her age. I have been a member of the Down Syndrome listserv and the Downs Heart Group for quite sometime. I am a seasoned lurker but will respond to topics that are passionate and close to my heart. I just wanted to make a quick post and introduce myself. I try to read every day, but sometimes a couple days will pass between my replies. Right now we are in the throws of potty training. Sometimes, I wonder why I punish myself and try these things with both kids at the same time. I guess I must love the misery!!! Smile Quote
