Guest guest
I've been looking for math flashcards, but they seem to have just the problem, not the answer. So I made my own with index cards and magic marker. I also made cards with high frequency words. To use the method in "Teaching Reading to children with DS" it was easy to make duplicate cards for matching. That has worked very well with Faith.. ette -------------- Original message from and Behnke <behnkesw@...>: -------------- Hey all, I am looking to purchase flash cards to startworking with my 2.5 year old. Guest guest
Hello . The cards I use for my son seem to work pretty well. They are picture cards and and are in full color. This box is "Language Builder"Picture Cards. there are 350 cards in this particular box.It has Animals,Foods,Vehicles,Clothing,Furniture,Toys,Shapes and colors in it.On the back of each card is an easy-to-use tracking for progress that is made. These should be good cards for her age. I know with as long as I keep filling up his head I can't go wrong even if it is overflowing.I didn't see a web site on this picture card box but there is a phone number. It is (916)892-2737.Just a thought. Thanks Larry M.pbeurrier@... wrote: I've been looking for math flashcards, but they seem to have just the problem, not the answer. So I made my own with index cards and magic marker. Guest guest
For my brother's flash cards, we have pictures (right now it is our family, and various animals we have) and then printed out the words and laminated the pic & words. . . .now we have a sturdy flash card. We have also ordered some flash cards from various other educational/teaching places that we may use down the road. We are also starting to do the program by Glenn Doman - "How To Teach Your Baby To Read". The "flash cards" are 3 inches tall and 22 inches long. They are huge. We plan to get those laminated sometime here too. The book by Glenn Doman on "How To Teach Your Baby To Read" (40th Anniversary edition) is very informative and explains the program very well - it all makes lots of sense (especially for DS). Guest guest
Ok.. back... if you purchase "Teaching Reading to Children with DS" it has cards in the back to be copied. She recommends simple black and white drawings with pictures, and words with out pictures so you can match cards. There are many different ways to aquire or make your own cards once you find pictures. I had used many from here : http://www.readinga-z.com/allbooks/index.html But that was long ago when they didn't charge an arm and a leg to join! There are free books at the above site. It was worth the money I had paid out long ago as we were homeschooling so I used many of their items. They are VERY VERY good, I will say that and you can a boat load of flash cards Pat O style too! At least you could when I used them. Also the Montesorri cards I have in the files are really great. I am making a game for and her friend using the cards now as they are doing some reading. If you stick with Montesorri type learning, man.... they have TONS and tons of hands on learning for language/reading skills!!! Really right up our kids' alley. Montessori started with teaching kids with developmental disabilities so her stuff is very hands on and somewhat tailor made. Check out this site for lots of langauge ideas- http://www.jmjpublishing.com/language.htm The babybumble bee sites ( also in the files ) has free flash cards that match up with their vocab building videos. You can find the list of words in each vocab builder on their site. I wonder if the DVD's have electronic flash cards now as Baby Einstein Videos do? You can make your own flash cards here- they are real large, but did real well with them anyway. http://www.educationalpress.org/educationalpress/ --Carol in IL -------------- Original message -------------- From: and Behnke <behnkesw@...> Hey all, I am looking to purchase flash cards to startworking with my 2.5 year old. Guest guest
Just an FYI...the Language Builder cards have been "the" cards employed in ABA and Verbal Behavior programs for Autistic kids for several years....that's how long I've been waiting to find them for a lower price to no avail. They are also available at SuperDuperInc.com which used to have a 20% (I think) sale at the end of the year....still waiting to hear about it this year, and again at difflearn.com (Different Roads to learning). Every once in awhile there will be an offer for a used set on an ABA listserv...but very very rarely. Can always try Ebay but I didn't have any luck. But picture cards are SO much fun to make yourself why bother making them??? Actually I do think they're fun to make but after all these years I've kind of lost my enthusiasm. When we started out there were no "Picture This" CDs around or any ready made cards that were good clear photo quality. When I die, which may be sooner than later, I will "will" my collection of a bazillion homemade picture cards to all of you. Sherry
