NTL.SCOLI. PROGRAM IN D.C.

Hi fellow Feistys'!

Is anyone else going to be attending the National Scoliosis Foundation

Patient/Doctor Dialogue that is being held at the National Museum of Health

and Medicine tomorrow, October 23, 2004?? I only just received the

program/registration form in the mail on Wednesday but I made a call and

they are still accepting registrations..so I signed up to go.

It sounds like it's going to be a pretty interesting program folks. The

program is being held in connection with the exibition of the incredible art

by Ferguson. Her paintings are beautifully haunting works of art. " She

has spent the past 12 years pursuing an artist's inquiry into

scoliosis " ...that's a direct quote about her paintings from the brochure.

Also according to the brochure, " The program includes a series of question

and answer sessions along with individual and group discussions to foster

communications on the topics and issues most important to

patients.Participants will also have the opprotunity to learn about and

comment on the Walter Visual Assesment Scale (WRVAS) , a survey

instrument recently developed by the Scoliosis Research Society to measure

patients' perceptions of specific visuala aspects of scoliosis. "

Presenters at the seminar will be: Ferguson (the artist); ph P.

O'Brien, President and CEO of the National Scoliosis Foundation, patient

advocate and educator; W. Polly, Jr., M.D., primary author of the

WRVAS, formerly Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Walter and currently

Chief of SPine Service and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University

Of Missesota; and the moderator, ne Noe, PhD., Director of the

National Museum of Health and Medicine.

The porgram is being held on 10/223/04 from 10 AM 'till 2 PM at the

National Museum of Health and Medicine of the Armed Forces Institute of

Pathology. This museum is located at Walther Medical Center at 6900

Georgia Ave. in Washington, D.C. Registrations ($30.00) can be mde by

calling 781-341-8333 or 800-673-6922. You can also read the info at

www.scoliosis.org and you can view some of Ferguson's art works at

www.lauraferguson.net

I would love to meet some of my Feisty Friends at this seminar! Please

e-mail me at bunce1117@... and let me know if I'll see you there!

Sorry this notification is so late but like I said, I just got it, too.

All the best,

Beth B.

Hi Beth,

I'm too far away, too. Any chance they've set up some sort of thing

on the web so that we who are far away could still participate?

I can't go, but please tell Dr. Polly I said hello, and I'm doing well -- he did

my first fusion at Walter Read when I was 19! He only fused L3-S1, hoping that

the rest of my curve would correct, but I ended up having a revision and

extension of the surgery (T11-S1) a few years ago.
