Guest guest
I think someone in the last few days just wrote about radioablation, you might want to check the recent posts. I can't find a thing about it on the internet using radioablation and nasal polyps, nose, etc., as search terms. So I don't think there's any studies on it, that's for sure. I don't know what you consider alternative treatments. I have found antifungal treatments to be somewhat effective, including ingested oregano juice (very diluted, and make sure it's oregano juice, not oregano oil). Guest guest
I was on two courses of oral antifunal (Lamisil 500mg per day) last summer following my third sinus surgery at Univ of Pennsylvania. The first course of eight weeks worked great, I could smell obvious scents and could taste. I was able to keep my oral steroid daily dose at 5-10mg. But after two months it was suggested I take a " drug holiday " to see what happened, and within 10 days the polyps returned. We attempted another run of eight weeks after that, but the second course did not work. I was told to fly west and give Scripps a go which I did in April. So far, so good for me on the aspirin. I have been feeling much better and my ENT office visits show a significant decrease in polyps and edematous tissue in my sinuses. *One thing, our insurance company would not cover the high dose oral antifungal for a patient who did not have any signs of fungal sinsusitis (my pathology showed no fungus.) They would not cover it for an " off label " use but I filed an appeal through the proper channels and they gave me an answer within six hours that they would cover the two trials of Lamisil. Guest guest
Also, the reason my surgeon gave me Lamisil was because Sporonox was not on my insurance company's formulary. Since the two drugs are in the same therapeutic class he was fine with using the Lamisil. Barb V
Guest guest
, Somehow I missed your message until I noticed that Barb had replied to your message. Sporanox was the only medication she was started on (at the time she was on just your standard asthma medications). Yes she did regain her smell. Its the only time since it started 8 years ago that she has ever been able to smell. Barb, We had problems with the insurance company as well but they eventually gave it to us afer enough protesting and pointing out the charcot layden crystals in the sinus polyp tissue samples (even though we were never able to show an actual fungal infectgions). Its true this is a bit of a red herring but it seemed to do the trick for us. -Will
