Guest guest
Lori, Got a stupid question. How am I suppose to know if I am post menopause? I had my uterus removed at about 30ish. I had hot flashes that lasted for days with no relief and was always sweaty so I have been on Premerain for about 3 years. I have no idea where I am at. I was so hot I was wearing summer clothes in the winter in Alaska and 68 in the house was terribly hot for me. Should I taper off this HRT and see what happens? osteoporosis/osteopenia ,what you have is known as osteopenia. I previously had it because of all the years of steroids. Steroids destroy bone, especially in women.I changed my diet since finding out I was osteopenic to include more calcium and also take Tums as a supplement. But there are prescriptions agents to help build bone or prevent bone loss that you can get prescribed if you are past menopause. I am pretty sure my bones have built back up since I recently had a bone scan for something unrelated to Samters and they ddin't mention that my bones were osteopenic. But you should keep a close eye on this.Lori
Guest guest
, You are postmenopasual if you had your uterus removed. The HRT actually helps stave off bone loss, so that's not a bad thing to be on for the osteopenia. But the HRT will make you hot. You might want to ask your doctor about medications to preserve bone, especially since you had your uterus removed ... Lori
Guest guest
Did she have ovaries and uterus removed. Your ovaries are what produces estrogen ,progesterone and androgen. I was told once years ago by my OB/GYN that I could have a hysterectomy for a problem I have. He said my ovaries were fine and there was no need to remove them. I decided against having it done because the problem I have is not that bad. I was told also that when I reach menopause it should get better. He also explained about your ovaries being what produces female hormones. I know the bisphosphonates can be very harsh on the esophagus, so I assume that is true for the gastric pouch, too?? We are starting to have more patients getting bone mineral density testing (as they should), so finding more with low bone density. Obviously, they need adequate Calcium and vitamin D AND weight bearing exercise, but I am not so sure about the drugs. I know we will be asked more often by the PCPs, so I am trying to learn about the meds.
