Guest guest
" Usual doses of Aspirin increases Nitric Acid Formation in Human's " ,Hennekens, ,Circulation,Nov 09. All doses of aspirin increase nitric oxide.Nitric oxide is released from the blood vessel wall (arterial)and may decrease the development and progression of plaques leading to heart attacks and strokes.Hennekens was the first to demonstrate that aspirin can prevent a first heart attack or a first stroke. Dr. Louis Ignarro, a nobel prize winner, has a book " No more Heart Disease " which talks about preventing a heart attack or stroke by increasing NO levels by increasing daily l-arginine(4,000-6,000 mg),l-citrullene(400-600mg),taking Vitamin E (50IU)and vitamin C(500mg),minimizing saturated fat, eating more fiber, doing aerobic exercise(at least 20 min 3x/week). Also there is a paper relating attacks on the mitochondrial protein Drp1 by the free radical nitric oxide -which causes S-nitrosylation-mediates neurodegeneration associated with Alzheimer's disease.(Science,2009;324(5923)102-105).Also I have heard about No being related to C.O.P.D. It would be nice to know how much we might be increasing NO by taking ASA and whether it is a good idea to increase NO level further by some of the above ie. benefit vs risk with respect to Heart and stroke prevention versus Alzheimers or COPD?
