Guest guest
> Hi All, > > I was wondering would anyone have menu suggestions for a Samters friendly diet, please? Should it almost be Atkins-like, i.e. largely meat based? If so, how do you get necessary nutrients you'd usually get from fruit and veg? Thanks, Jude. Hi Jude. I am trying the failsafe diet which has no salycilates, additives, preservatives, or artificial colors. Pretty boring and quite the challenge but can be done. It will take me less time to type what you CAN have instead of what you CAN'T...as the " don't eat " list is much longer...lol. I kept asking if someone had a list of what CAN be eaten and couldn't find one, so I searched for two days online and came up with this. You should find a vitamin/mineral supplement that has no color, additives, preservatives, salyicilates, or herbs...as all plant products produce their own salyicilates for disease protection. What the heck, I guess trying it for six weeks isn't going to hurt! If we truly are sensitive to foods/products that contain salylicilates six weeks should prove a difference in how we are feeling. Try finding shampoo, toothpaste, laundry soap, dishsoap, make-up, lotions, etc...without these chemicals too. I am trying to gather that list right now and will post it later. Here is the list of foods with 0.00 salyicilates...later you can add foods that have low amounts like 0.04 and so on (that list will come later). Remember to read labels...only pure/fresh foods allowed. I found chicken with no chemicals at my grocery. Beef is harder to come by...maybe in Organic/Natural Food Stores? Remember...herbs and spices are in the HIGH category and should be avoided to start. I am trying to compile a recipe list and meal ideas right now too. Bear with me! Guest guest
Thanks Trudy, I am delighted to see bananas on that list. I wasn’t sure about those. Do you eat porridge, i.e. Oatlets with skimmed milk? And how about rice and honey? Thanks, Jude. Guest guest
Thanks Trudy, I am delighted to see bananas on that list. I wasn¹t sure about those. Do you eat porridge, i.e. Oatlets with skimmed milk? And how about rice and honey? Thanks, Jude. I am searching right now to see if I can have molasses. Sugar was on the list and I left it off...sorry...I don't eat it for other reasons and didn't think about those that can handle it. I will find out about honey too. When I post what I eat remember I am using " legal " foods that usually can be found in the health food store and some groceries. I eat oatmeal w/milk, butter, pure maple syrup. So far my diet is pretty sparse as I come up with ideas and menus. I love cooked cabbage and am trying to find a legal bacon to cook with it. A friend from the ines taught me to fry the bacon crisp, break into bits, save some grease and fry chopped cabbage in it, adding bacon back when cooked. I can hear the low-fat commandos now! I know my head spins when I try to come up with meal ideas, and as I find them I will post them if the group doesn't mind. Trudy.
Guest guest
I haven't seen any discussion of ingredient labeling regarding Sampters, etc. Reading labels is simply not enough if one is trying to eliminate salicylates, artificial colorings and flavorings, preservatives. Manufacturers aren't required to be that specific. For example, "natural flavoring" on the label may contain one or more salicyaltes and there is no way to determine which one. Inhaling fumes or getting anything with salicylates on the skin can cause a reaction in an extrememly sensitive person. What about benzoates? The Swain study was done in 1985 and the Feingold Association notes that products are different in Australia. Some of the links are from Australia.
