The first question is, did you ever have this pain before? I know, dumb

question. :)

Maybe one of the gals with gall bladder problems can say if this is

consistent with that kind of pain. GB pains flare up after fatty meals, so

maybe that chicken fajita was worse for you than you thought.

> I want to walk on the treadmill but this hurts. Should I go ahead and

walk?

Walking might help it, if it's something like gas. Just take it a bit slower

today, and if it hurts more when walking, stop. Sorry I can't help much.

Nope. Except when running when I would get a cramp in my side.

Feels the same this afternoon as it did this morning.

It can't be gas on my right side at the bottom of my rib cage. :) Probably

a pulled muscle but I'll call the doc if it gets worse.

Hi all,

Well the verdict is in from the gastro. No-one knows why I have the

pain in my abdomen/side. All the tests came back negative. I asked

the dr. if it was possible that the clip, that the surgeon placed in

there from the gall bladder surgery, is being vibrated by the stim

and causing the pain. She said that she didn't know but it was an

interesting idea and that I should talk to my pain dr. about it. So

back to square one. She also said that she didn't know what could be

done if it is the clip. I think the only way to know if it's the

clip is to have it taken out, but I'll have to see what the dr.

says. He'll probably say I'll have to talk to the surgeon again!!!

Around and around we go. I've been here before. Not being able to

get an answer is so frustrating. The worst thing is that I cannot

use the scs to it's full capacity because it then makes my

abdomen/side hurt. Maybe the pain will subside on it's own over

time. It is less than it was before, so maybe, maybe it will go away.

Holly, glad to hear from you. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Take care of yourself and let us know how things are.

How is everyone else doing out there? Any of the new members have

anything going on with their scs?

Take care all and good wishes to everyone.

---Ruth Hi I have an idea why don't you try turning off the

stimulator and see if the abdominal pain goes away. If it does you

have your awnser if not I would talk to the rep and doc that did the

surgery and see if the location is causing the pain of the battery.

They might have to move it to a different location, or you may need

to get adjustments with the stimulator with your rep. my stimulator

causes stimulation into the abdominal area at times when that happens

I either don't worry about it or I call my rep if it's bothering me

to adjust things. I would recommend try talking to your doc and rep

and see what they think and go from there good luck!

take care

Hi Holly,

Tried that. It isn't directly from the stimulator. It started after

I had the gall bladder surgery. The stim makes it worse. The higher

I turn up the stim the worse the pain gets. I am going to ask the

tech to see if she can try to make it better. She has tried before

but it was right after the surgery. So maybe she will have better

luck this time.

maybe you need that stool test from metametrix..the complete stool profile.

demeirleir does it with his patients and then prescribes specific antibiotics.

he gets results. i think he believes the gut is all screwed up and that is whats

causing CFS!

Subject: Abdominal pain

I wrote to this group a few months ago about my abdominal pain.

I have since figured out that my pain is caused by sitting down. It is quite

bizzare. I spend most of the day sitting down in front of a computer (not much

else to do when you have CFS and have no energy to move). I realized that every

night when I lie down to go to sleep I start hearing these loud gurgling sounds

coming from my abdomen and I feel my intestines moving. With each wave of

peristalsis (intestinal movement) I could feel the pain slowly going away.

After about 30 to 45 minutes, the pain was gone. This same pattern repeats

itself every day....pain during the day when I am sitting and gradual relief

when I lie down. Standing up does not help so much.

Has anybody experienced something like this? Even the gastroenterologists seem

to find it weird.

Many Drs who have not a had a problem themselves find a

condition weird, can't relate to it from personal experience.

Trapped gas is often relieved by lying on one's side, which

allows gas to move out. So intestinal dynamics can be changed

by sitting/standing vs. lying down - things move around

differently lying down.

From a TCM perspective, this would be called " stagnant Qi " ,

Qi moves much less when the person sits all the time.

From a homeopathic perspective, there are some constitutions

predisposed to this.

From a nutritional/genetic perspective, gluten, whole wheat

lectin, other food sensitivities, nutritional and hormone

deficiencies can slow transit time, and can predispose to

irritable bowel and trapped gas, slow transit time.

These is a common situation, but unfortunately there is not

enough matter-of-fact discussion about this in our culture,

so each person who has it hides and suffers often for years

or decades before the situation gets unpacked and effectively

addressed, ideally by all angles concurrently.

Hi,

Sounds like it would be helpful to take a brief rest period once or twice

throughout the day and lie down for 20 minutes or so.

Do you take a probiotic regularly? Digestive Enzymes might also help.

Char-

I have very similar issues. When it's bad it affects my back, hips and legs too.

It used to just be my lower back and glutes, but that has changed in the past

couple of months.

My pain is definitely tied to my bowels is some way. If I'm not stretching

during the day and getting my IBS under control then my back, hips and legs hurt

a lot. And obviously if the IBS isn't isn't controlled then my gut hurts as

well.

That's a very interesting connection between posture and organs. There is a

method that helps people sit and move properly that could help, The Gokhale

Method: http://egwellness.com. They now have a well designed chair. I got their

back pad for sitting and I use it in my car. Back support should be at the mid

back, not the lower back. That is one of the interesting thing you will learn.

Your organs and breath can be constrained with bad posture.

Gokhale has a clinic in Palo Alto.

Thank you for the interesting website . I will look through it more

carefully.

In response to some of the posts yesterday...I am not sure that I have IBS. I

have no gas, no diarrhea, no constipation....just abdominal pain, which goes

away when I lay down at the end of the day.

I have tried lying down during the day...it does not have the same effect. It

will reduce the pain temporarily, but it will come right back as soon as I sit

down again.

The weird part is that this symptom emerged overnight. One day I was well and

the next day I had abdominal pain. I would have expected a gradual onset.

Keep the responses coming...they are very helpful.

Sounds like it might be related to inflamed nerves. do you have sciatica?

I ended up buying a used Herman miller aeron chair which helped some. Sitting

for too long still eventually causes pain but it takes a little longer. Also

when I'm sitting sometimes my pant waist pinches the nerves at my hips and

causes nerve issues. (which could affect the bowel)

Hello Heytrollop,

I have no sciatica or back pain...just abdominal pain.

It sounds like you are saying that you have the same problem as I

do....abdominal pain provoked by sitting down. Am I understanding you correctly

or are you saying that sitting down causes you back pain?

Is your only treatment using a Herman chair or have you tried anything

else?
