Dave, If possible, try to get all your symptoms as under control as possible

before surgery and or desen. I believe the most important thing is to have a

doctor that knows this disease. I have a great doctor in Portsmouth NH. He

may be worth the trip for you. He has been a miracle for me. I have been

symptom free for 4 months now using a nasal rinse procedure he set me up

with. Let me know if you want his info.

Hi Dave and welcome! I did a search and found Bruce Bochner @

Hopkins as a place for desens. I personally had one surgery long ago

under local...never again. I have had five since...Caudwell Luc's and

InstaTrak. Good luck in your efforts and let us know! Trudy.

> Hi Dave,

My first polyp surgery, 6 years ago, was under sedation and I was pretty much

polyp free

for 4 years. I don't think the polyps were as extensive at that point, because

I hadn't even

developed aspirin sensitivity yet (I have it big time now). I was put under

general

anesthetic for my second and third surgeries, 2.5 years ago and last May, both

of which

were much more extensive.

I am on the waiting list for aspirin desensitization at Scripps and they told me

that polyp

surgery should precede aspirin desensitization by 4-6 weeks, giving you enough

time to

heal.

I am wondering myself if I should try to have another surgery before my

desensitization....I

had a 40 mg kenalog shot last week (so I can have my sense of smell over the

holidays),

but my sense of smell has pretty much receded, but not completely, since my last

polyp

surgery in May. On the one hand I would like to start the desensitization with a

clean slate

so to speak, but on the other I hate to have yet another CAT scan and more

surgery if it is

not necessary.

Does anyone else wrestle with these questions?

Thanks! I live in Minnesota, is anyone else in my area?

Uri

I did the desesitisation a year or so after my last surgury. My polyps were

growing back, but I was not occluded yet. My asthma was at it's worst at the

time, or a month before really. I went for it simply because it was offered.

The

doctor is local and seemed experienced and confident. The procedure went

well. It took 7 hours and cost me $280.00. I have insurance, but this went to

my deductable. This was in the first week of July. I'm doing fabulously

better.

I have gradually dropped most of the meds. My nebulizor is packed away. I

now longer have a bottle of O2 in the closet. I still have my emergency

prednisone stash, didn't need it even when I got a bad cold. I'm down to 50/

100 Advair. I wasn't taking it at all until the doctor convinced me that I am

not

really cured and shouldn't go completly med free. He also said my polyps

look GREAT and that my Pulminary function was very healthy. I had a pulse-

ox meter at home and struggled to keep my O2 sat. higher than my heart beat.

They were always reverse. I went to the hospital last January when my O2

saturation went down to 68 while I was sucking down albuterol nebs with

strait oxigen! So, my belief is DO IT!!!

Take care, Pam
