feeling pain question

My husband has been suffering with stenosis for several years now. One side of his body is hyper-sensitive to pain and he suffers from tingling and burning. He also has balance issues, and a number of other, related problems. He had to have surgery to prevent paralysis in November 2001.

My question is about a severe bladder infection he was just diagnosed with. He never felt any pain. The only reason he discovered it is he started to bleed and throw clots when urinating. It was a very scary situation.

Could he possibly have not felt the infection because of his stenosis? Is this now something else I/we need to watch for (worry about)?

Thanks.

Hi P Walsh I am very sorry for what ur husband is going thru. bladder/urinary infections can be very painful, but in ur husband case.. he was not able to feel the pain of it. Only a dr possibly will be able to answer ur question of if the not feeling of the pain is caused by the stenosis. One thing u might try is to have ur husband drink ALOT of Ocean Spray CRANBERRY JUICE daily! I am not going to say it will help in his case.... but cranberry juice is very good for the urinary track and it also will help with infections. it can't hurt to try it. I would have him drink several glasses a day, everyday without fail. Please seek the advice of a DR for his current infection. He will need meds to clear it up. Oh, don't worry that we sought a doctor's advice. At one point a clot had blocked him and it he hadn't had things "cleared" he could have had kidney damage! He's on 5 weeks of antibiotics and a re-check scheduled.

And I had heard the cranberry juice thing before. Thanks for the reminder.
