Guest guest
Dear ladies and fellows: Im sure that this has been addressed ad nauseam, but I need to know. Who out there can tollerate Tylenol for chronic use. Do we react to it, just slower than ASA? Whats the official " deal " with Acetominophen? Ive just had my first sinus surgery, and i am experiencing some swelling and anosmia 1 month after the procedure. I have been occasionaly using tylenol, and I am wondering if this is causing problems. Curious Affinito ...Tylenol should not be a problem as far as allergy for most Samterites. You could be one of the few is allergic to it though and you need to find that out. As for pain relief after surgery...IMO...they should have given you a stronger med. Percocet, Ultram, Vicodin...something a little stronger and longer acting. Everyone has a different tolerance to pain...I am quite uncomfortable after surgery for a few weeks. Each visit causes extreme stress too as the crusts are removed and it starts the pain and healing all over, so I take Ultram before my appointments and make sure the ENT numbs me up good. The big problem with Tylenol use is that is it metabolized through the liver and long term use can cause serious damage. That is why I like the Ultram...no Tylenol in it...no ASA in it...it lasts for about four hours. As for the anosmia...I haven't had a sense of smell for about 15 years, unless I am on high doses of prednisone, then it comes back for a bit. Good luck with your recovery, and let us know how you are doing! Trudy...Me You've Seen, Don't Be A Putz, Go See The World.
Guest guest
I think you should be able to find some posts in which some of our members describe reactions to Tylenol, even though statistically, the reaction seems an order-of-magnitude less frequent and less threatening. Here's a scary paper which I referenced in the desensitization primer: http://www.sma.org/smj2002/julysmj02/pdf/bachmeyer.pdf regards, Ken West > From: " Trudy " <iamthezookeeper@...> > Reply-samters > Date: Sat, 25 Sep 2004 14:43:17 -0000 > samters > Subject: Re: Tylenol??? > > Dear ladies and fellows: Im sure that this has been addressed > ad nauseam, but I need to know. Guest guest
You dont mention the dosage Tylenol, rarely people may react over 1300mg a dayotherwise safer at lower dosage-But not really recommended for long term usage because the effects on the liver as mentioned james affinito <jamesaffinito@...> wrote: Dear ladies and fellows: Im sure that this has been addressed ad nauseam, but I need to know. Guest guest
, I feel that for myself anyway Tylenol causes a less noticeable reaction that, nonetheless, leads to nasal symptoms over the long term. In the past I had been using a lot of it after surgery, and this last October after my surgery I didn't use any at all -- I asked for all prescription meds (Dilaudid and Darvon are the only things I have found I can get without Tylenol; they are pretty strong narcotics but I was able to get them) and I think my polyps have been slower to come back. I've been doing other things differently as well. Like my reaction to other things, the Tylenol reaction has become more noticeable over time. That may also be because I've eliminated some of the " background noise " and in general my health seems to be better. I'm sure that for everyone the Tylenol experience like the rest of this is different. But I would be cautious when using it. Lori
