Guest guest
My father and I are both diagnosed with Samters. I think there is probably a genetic factor, like a predisposition, but that there may be participatory events that allow samters to evolve from just having one or two of the corners of the triad to all three. My father is one of three siblings, and while others have allergies and/or asthma, only he has samters. My father has 4 children, I am the only one currently diagnosed with Samters. My sister has aspirin allergy, but not asthma and only occasional rhino sinusitis, though she does have other immune illnesses; one brother is prone to respiratory infection/bronchitis; my other brother is prone to sinus infection and recently had to have sinus surgery but has no polyps and has not exhibited asthma or aspirin allergy. Of course this could change for them - I was in my 30's before I exhibited all 3 corners and my brothers are quite a bit younger. Hope that helps. I'm watching my 2 children carefully. I may have their sinuses scoped when they are a bit older to make sure there are no functional issues which will make them more susceptible to infection. Both my brother and I had functional issues that if corrected earlier would have made life much nicer. > > I have read some material about Samters being hereditary. Guest guest
My grandfather had samters. One of my cousins had a funny reactionto aspirin once, but didn't develop Samters....yet. I am the only one of 12 grandkids to have Samters, so far, but i really do believe it's genetic. I sincerely hope my kids don't get this. Guest guest
No one else in my family has anything like it. I just hope my son who is 13 never has to deal with this. Guest guest
After my last surgery, my ENT said it’s very possibly handed on to a family member and I should keep a look out for symptons in my daughter who’s now 24 and starting to show them. Guest guest
Hi there, I am 34, have had Samter's triad since the age of approximately, 18-22. I just was recently aspririn desensitized a few days ago by Dr. Bosso in Nyack NY. First off, I am amazed on how in only a few days, I feel like a new person...I feel like I am living in a new world.. and its not like being on prednisone, its a sense of clearness I cannot explain, your eyes, nose, ears and focus is magnifed times 100! anyway, my Mother who is 62, also has the triad and has had it since she was in her 20's, If Dr. Bosso confirms she does in fact have it too, then we will be the second Mother/daughter in the US to have this condition. There is only 1 other reported case confirmed, mother/daughter who share this condition. My mom and I both have had 3 - 4 nasal polys removed surgically at different times, we both have severe asthma through the years, and we both were not able to take an aspirin. (although both my mom and I were able to at pne point as children) I clearly remember her taking an anti inflammatory when I was just a kid, and she looked like she was going to die and was rushed to the hospital.. as I got older and developed the triad in my 20's which I never thought would have happened, I took an aspirin for cramps one day and my throat closed, eyes swelled and had an asthma attack. I am sure that this condition is genetic but I guess there is not enough research out there yet... I know our blood will be going to Scripps clinic in California for research, I would do anything to help someone who just went through the hell I have been going through for over 10 years with this condition. If anyone truly wants to feel better, that aspirin desensitization program is a miracle. (so far at least!) > > > > I have read some material about Samters being hereditary. Guest guest
Do you have a contact at Scripps who is conducting the study on the blood? Since my father and I are both diagnosed, we could contact them if they want to study family groups diagnosed with samters. Guest guest
I am the only one in a huge family who has this issue. My mom is one of 7, my dad is one of 8, and my grandpa was one of 12!!! I know every one of my 37 first cousins. Not one of them has any Samters symptoms. My dad does extensive geneology and has not found anyone with Samters. My uncle did have one sinus surgery, but it was not due to polyps. I've read about a genetic link, but I just don't see it. I guess I am the lucky one! Guest guest
I think that as matter of precaution we should all have our children stay away from the usual triggers : NSAIDS, aspirin, airborne irritants, allergens, fungi, etc. > > > > I have read some material about Samters being hereditary.
