While pregnant with my first I started reading a lot about interventive medicine, etc. And happened upon the non-vaccinating side in our state. We were already against most procedures, especially drugs, and this seemed to make sense to us. Nature set up our bodies to work a specific way, especially where disease is concerned. The only thing I had trouble with was when my son was born (August), my daughter was at a new preschool, where the parents didn't keep their kids home the first day or two of a cold (it's the way a lot of these illnesses begin). Consequently, and because I wasn't cautious enough with my son, he contracted RSV at 2-1/2 months. However, despite the urgings to hospitalize him, I did not. I researched the subject and treatments, and chose to treat him at home with herbs. It took 2 weeks to clear up, and there were no side effects, such as you see with most children whose parents opt for steroids (the inhalers). He also caught whooping cough the same way (the entire class except my dd was vaccinated, explain that). Both of these were *dangerous* due to his age. If he were to contract them now, I wouldn't worry near as much. We've also been through measles, chickenpox, mumps, and various colds. Although since June we've been relatively *sick* free. I can only advise that you follow common sense. Make everyone, I mean everyone, wash their hands before handling your child. Once your child is crawling, wash their hands whenever you think about it, and never ever let anyone with symptoms of a cold near them. Once their immune system kicks in, they can pretty much take anything (although it means a lot of sleepless nights for you) - as far as benign childhood diseases go. My 6 month old has had congestion (in his nose) and a dry cough for about a month now. It doesn't seem to bother him, and the congestion mostly hits at night, and a humidifier has helped. I haven't been too concerned about it, but you mentioned a dry cough, which he has, but is a very mild cough. I haven't spoken to the ped about it because, frankly, I don't really trust doctors, especially after the vax research I've done. For those 'seasoned' parents, is he just experiencing normal 'infant' stuff? Since it's been so mild and doesn't bother him, I haven't been worried. Any input would be appreciated. Guest guest Posted December 9, 1999 Report Share Posted December 9, 1999 Hi Sue, This decision was one we thought long and hard about, I did not know for sure what I was going to do when Alissa was born (now 15 months) but I knew she was protected from disease through my breastmilk at least until she started solid foods. I spent that time researching and learning about each disease and just how scary it might be for her to contract it. We concluded the consequences (potential) outweighed the positives and that we could protect her from most disease just by a healthy lifestyle. We don't have her in daycare, we breastfeed, we have a good diet, etc. It is wise to use discretion when your child is so young with exposure to others, avoidance of obvious situations where there may be a risk of him catching something is common sense to me, whether vaccinnated or not. I don't spend a lot of time worrying about Alissa contracting diseases, but I am aware and keep her away from newly vaccinnated children for instance. I won't subject her to children with colds either if I can avoid it. I have a pediatrician who has never questioned our decision not to vaccinnate. That is nice for us. We had to do some research to find him though. Don't let your doctor scare you into any decisions you aren't comfortable with. Congratulations on your baby boy!! He would have a very audible breathing problem. I had to listen to my son's chest frequently in order to measure if he was improving or not. The *stuff* nose is indicative, that actually something is being produced. Since it seems thick and remains in the sinus area, with a mild cough -- I would look at sensitivity issues. This is the time of year when dampness reigns. And reeks all sorts of havoc on peoples' respiratory systems. Mold is the worst. What you can do to make yourself feel better is this: Start taking echinacea tincture or tea yourself (it will pass to the breastmilk), and your son is old enough to handle 20 drops of tincture 3x a day himself. This will boost his immune system. You can use the echinacea for up to 2 weeks before it's usefulness wanes. Also, you may want to check out some homeopathic remedies which may match his current symptoms (you didn't list them all). I know what you mean about doctors, my daughter didn't even see one for 10 months. Then I decided that well baby care is not evil, it can be good. I can reject any advice I don't agree with. In any case, I would have my child checked for a persistent cough, it can't hurt. I wonder, could it be an allergy? If its a dry cough at night it sounds as though the bronchia passages are irritated by something. It could just be dry air or it could be something more serious. Guest guest Posted December 10, 1999 Report Share Posted December 10, 1999 I decided to stop all vaccines after my son had his last round, because he was fine 6 mos post op (o/h surgery and right pneumonectomy) until he had his last dose of shots, including the Hep B, he began to wheeze and have respiratory problems 3 days after his shots, and the ped and the docs at the hospital told me it couldn't have been from the shots. I seriously have my doubts. The pediatrician said it was 'normal' and recommended a cool mist humidifier. It did not seem to help to much. You may want to consult a homeopath, chiropractor or naturopath and explain the situation with the vaccines. They may have some alternatives to aide, or atleast keep him healthy so the rattling/congestion you hear does NOT get worse with winter. Additionally, I would recommend requesting the vaccine package insert for every vaccine your son got....it will list EVERY side effect. I would definately take this as a sign and NOT ever administer another Hep B because if he reacted like this then the next time the reaction could be more severe such as the breathing stops. Don't let anyone tell you that this reaction is " nothing to worry about " because the morons haven't seen all the people experiencing the same symptoms and worse. Please report the reaction to VAERS. If you need the number/email let me know. All the people who spoke, were present or whose children died following the Hep B vaccine had experienced this symptom. At the time I didn't draw a connection because I was told it was normal. But after talking with all the victims, it became clear it was a side effect. While legally it is not, most schools, doctors, etc. will tell you that it is mandatory. You have to obtain an exemption in order to enroll your child in school over here. I have never heard of this but I would be more than willing to look it up in my many books. I am from England, near London. maybe RSV is called something different over here? I have many books on alternative medicine so if you want to ask anything, feel free. By the way, I have a 21 month old girl who has not been vaccinated against anything.
