Guest guest
Hi Sharon. Movicol or Fybogel will do the job, you can buy Fybogel over the counter but not sure if you need prescription for Movicol. Guest guest
Excess vitamin C is just excreted through body waste. You need to get an urgent appointment with her GP Sharon - this is beyond our capabilities as we are not medically qualified. let us know what happens. Luv - Sheila Hi all, Need advice as to what to give my daughter,as shes really suffering with constipation. She's taking 325mcg of ferrous sulphate,as prescribed by her gp and is VERY constipated! Shes also taking 6000mcg of vit C which is doing naff all! She's taken an extra 4000mcg of soluble vit C this evening which has done nothing so far. I get the fact that iron is extremely important, but if it causes a big problem with constipation then that is quite hazardous to your health! Its making her very lethargic and achy,as her bowel has a toxic build up of waste in it and I dont know what to give her.How much vit C can she take? If 10,000mcg is doing naff all I dont know whether I should call Dinorod in! Would all this build up have any other effects on her body too, like in her liver or effect the T3 she is taking? HELP!!! Guest guest
Hi Sharon, When I went to see a naturopath in February she gave me something called Co-ton A 00 http://www.healthypages.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?p=412327 It comes with or without goldenseal depending on whether you have blood pressure problems I believe. It worked for me and I found I lost weight too. It is just herbs. You can get it online quite easily from the place I went to. If you want details please mail me. Margaret PS I am losing weight at the rate of 2lbs per week by eliminating WHEAT products. I can live without bread, cakes and pies! > > Hi all, > > Need advice as to what to give my daughter,as shes really suffering with constipation. She's taking 325mcg of ferrous > > Best wishes Sharon >
Guest guest
Prunes will help, if you can persuade your daughter to eat them )
Guest guest
Has she tried chocolate? I find that on the rare occasion that I get sonstipated a bar of VERY dark chocolate does the trick for me. Glynis > Hi Glynis and , Shes tried apricots and absolutely hate prunes, but has tried them and neither of them work either! The 10,000mcg of vit C yesterday helped her go today, but not enough! I cant see that its normal to take such a high dose of vit C,especially as it doesnt do the job. Best wishes Sharon >
Guest guest
You can guage how much vit c you need by increasing the dose until the bowels become loose and then decreasing back a gram or two. Needs vary and are higher for those with adrenal fatigue and any kind of inflammation or ongoing chronic infection. Needs sky-rocket with a simple cold and high-dose vit c to bowel tolerance will often stop a cold dead in its tracks. Mo The 10,000mcg of vit C yesterday helped her go today, but not enough! Guest guest
Has anyone here heard of food combining? You basically don't mix starch and protein at the same meal. Cures cravings, wind and constipation in one!!
Guest guest
HI Have you tried linseeds on a regular basis, but if you cannot drink much only have a few. I could suggest what a GP prescribed to me once were sodium pills, but he did receive an angry call the next day. Chocolate can be good, but when we were young out came the MILK OF MAGNESIA from our Mother. Anything with iron in can be constipating. When I had an electrolyte problem I had problems with bad constipation and very weak time I was taken to Hospital, and could not eat for 3 weeks. I was given sodium and pottasium. The cause of this was a large polyp that filled the whole of the uterus caused in turn by tamoxifen. I also have a history of polyps, and they do not show up on a scan, and I have been told that soft tissue does not show up on scans. Polyps are also more serious if they bleed or discharge. It could be that something is causing a problem and needs to be checked out. At my resolution meeting the gynaecologist said that progresterone can cause problems in the bowel going on to cause irritable colon, and sometimes they prescribe progresterone for treating the bowel. We also have too much oestrogen around us now so in turn causes problems to both sexes. I can see ahead that there will be many problems to young girls of 13 who can simply go and obtain it from a chemist. Guest guest
Have you considered the possibility that your daughter may have insufficient stomach acid to digest her food properly? http://www.drmyhill.co.uk/wiki/Hypochlorhydria_-_lack_of_stomach_acid_-_can_caus\ e_lots_of_problems A correct level of stomach acid is required to trigger the pancreas to produce digestive enzymes, and to trigger the gall bladder to produce bile to digest fats. Floating stools is an indication of undigested fats. Low stomach acid leads to selective malnutrition - inability to absorb protein and minerals. It would also upset the digestive system since undigested foods would start fermenting in the bowel. I have the low stomach acid problem and started taking H Cl & Pepsin with meals last November. Since then my iron levels have shot up, without me taking any iron supplements. Presumably other mineral levels have improved too. Many people complain that iron makes them constipated, so I think she should do the experiment of stopping the iron tablets for a short time to see whether the situation improves. Often people have to take iron supplements for months or years to correct anaemia, whereas the effect on the bowels should be obvious within a few weeks. I presume she is not taking any other medication which could be aggravating the situation? Miriam My daughter is almost 18 and a pain in the bum! [pardon the pun].She managed to go to the loo yesterday, after taking the 10,000mcg of vit C the day before, but says she never feels as if she had done enough.Although she is constipated, she says she goes every day,but not a great deal and its an effort. But I find even if I have the runs,I never feel as if I've " emptied " and wondered if this is also a hypo symptom.I noticed that her stools float and dont always flush away and was told by a friend that when it floats it can mean theres something wrong, but I thought most peoples do. Guest guest
No, the doctor didn't say it was only available on prescription. He said that if I wanted it on prescription then that had to be authorised by a gastroenterologist because it is so expensive. I am currently buying my own, but it does work out very expensive. Miriam > > Miriam > > The info your doctor has given you is wrong. You do not need a prescription for Betaine HCL,
