Guest guest
If you normally have coffee you should have it on the day you do the test. If you decide that you don't want to do it today (I decided I had messed it up the first time I tried it) you should be able to request a fresh kit free of charge. >
Guest guest
I was told to do it on a normal stressful busy day - this was by Dr P when I first saw him. If you smoke or drink coffee you should not - to the best of my knowledge - avoid these things on the day of the test - best to confirm that with your test provider but this is what i have been told. don't the instructions on the kit say what to avoid/do? I think you'ure supposed to avoid certain things within the hour of each sample but sure the test kit will say? if not can you contact the provider of it? Guest guest
Jacki, Those figures are REALLY low, suggest you ask your doctor for a referral to an endo or for a short synathcen test. s looks like a real possiblility. If you're on thryoid meds, watch it, they will stress out your adrenals even more, no increases at all, in fact depending on what you're on, you may need to leave them for a time.. Well worth posting these results on he adrenals forum, I think they would advise Cortisone rather than just nutri adrenal extra. I've been on Cortison and Nutri adrenal for about 9 months and am finally making progress.. Guest guest
Jacki, your results show that you are suffering with very low cortisol and you need to take these results to your GP together with the attached 'Quality Assurance' document from Genova, in case your GP poo poo's these results as being from a laboratory outside of the NHS that is not worthy of a second glance. Ask that he refers you to the hospital for a short synacthen test to see whether you might be suffering with either borderline 's disease or 's disease. I would actually write a letter to your GP enclosing a copy of your Genova Results and the Quality Assurance document and ask for them all to be placed into your medical notes. That way, doctors are more likely to take up your requests, whereas seeing them face to face, with no witnesses, it is easy for them to dismiss them. Let us know what happens, and good luck. Guest guest
Did you ask your GP whether he did his own 24 hour thyroid function urine tests - I bet he doesn't, you should remind him that the serum TFT's the NHS do ONLY test the level of free T4 and free T3 (if you are lucky) that is in the blood, they do not test to see how much thyroid hormone your body is actually using. This is where the 24 hour urine test comes into its own, because it DOES show how much T4 and T3 has been used in the cells. Perhaps you would be wise to wait to see what Dr Peatfield suggests after seeing your results Jacki, if your GP or the NHS refuse to do anything whatsoever about this problem, you have no other option but to look after this part of your health yourself.
