Re: iodine for ear infection?

I've decided against it for myself. I've been researching ear issues

because two of my cats have had vestibular disease (inner ear

inflammation/vertigo) and it turns out a cause of it can be iodine in the

ear (I was able to rule out internal iodine as a cause). Although the

following abstract says it was only alcohol-based iodine that caused damage

and not water-based, like Lugol's:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6977984

And it's said over and over it has to get past the eardrum so it's usually

a case where there is a perforation of the eardrum.

In any case for myself I've decided it's better to use something else. I

saw a reference yesterday to using coconut oil to heal ear infections.

After two rounds of swimmers ear for my daughter, and getting

drops from the pharmacy, the pharmacist said to me: “I am a scuba diver. We mix

half white vinegar and half rubbing alchohol and put it in our ears for

swimmers ear.” I have never filled a prescription again, just use that. The

vinegar kills the bacteria, the alchohol dries up the moistness. We use it

anytime they cannot get the water out of their ears, or for this daughter,

after being in a lake. Prevented any problems.

I have an ear infection, what the doc says is

" swimmers ear " . Could I drop some lugols in my ear to dry it out and

disinfect it?

I get swimmer's ear from time to time and do use iodine which always clears it

up. I dip a q-tip into the Lugol's and gently insert it into the ear and let it

stay there for a minute or so. Unorthodox I guess but it has worked for me each

time I've tried it.

If you use food grade, dilute it. It is 10 times as strong & can burn mucous membranes at full strength.AnneOn Jul 20, 2010, at 11:14 AM, Theta wrote: Do you use regular drug store hydrogen peroxide or food grade?--- On Tue, 7/20/10, Arthur Hall <rodjard > w I use Hydrogen Peroxide in my ears for that. There's no reason to use food grade for this type of application. Better to

use the ready-mix cheap stuff.

I recommend Selenium 200 mg. which is part of the Iodine protocol anyway. I had a problem last year and as soon as I added Selenium to my supplements it cleared out.

The doctor checked it out and he said there was not infection but the water was still there, at list for me, although he said there wasn't. I should say that I have also used Hydrogen Peroxide 35% food grade diluted to 10% (or you can use it diluted even further to clear the infection) previous to see the doctor.I wouldn't use the drug store 3% is full of fillers.
