Guest guest
How about selenium? I think you need to look at taking that - 200 - 400 mcg. IF I remember correctly you have adrenal issues and that will limit your thyroid meds as well as low ferritin and B12. Steph Thyroid hurts> > > > I started lugols iodine drops at 1 per day using the 5% lugols iodine and my thyroid is starting to hurt really bad. It feels sore and like I got punched in the thyroid area. I also feel more hypothyroid but I have really bad sweating, my skin is more red in color and I'm extremely hungry. What does it mean if my thyroid feels swollen and hurts? Is this normal or a bad reaction?>
Guest guest
It is your choice but if my thyroid was hurting I would supplement with some known levels of selenium. It's just too important to leave to chance in a brazil nut. How about salt? Are you using unrefined salt? Steph Re: Thyroid hurts my latest ferritin was 55 and my b12 is high. I eat 2 brazil nuts a day for the extra selenium. My last saliva cortisol test only shows low cortisol at night, it looks good the rest of the time.>> How about selenium? Guest guest
A naturepath I know told me to take one ounce in order to get the amount of selenium one needs for the day. I didn't think to ask how much mg's one ounce would make. Guest guest
she is on a tiny amount of iodine!! her thyroid gland is asking for more IMHO. Guest guest
For some that is the case. They feel better on more. The best thing to do is to play with your dose. That's what I did. I went from 50 to 75 to 100 to 125. Steph Re: Thyroid hurts I use lots of sea salt every day on my food, so I'm pretty sure I have that covered. Could I just not be on enough iodine? I feel like the iodine is aggravating my thyroid and making me more hypo.My multi vitamin has 100% daily value for selenium too.>> It is your choice but if my thyroid was hurting I would supplement with some known levels of selenium. Guest guest
I don't have a thyroid. I am taking 50 mgs of Iodoral right now and I just decreased to 3 1/2 gr Nature-throid from 4. We are working on some blood sugar issues and I was feeling hyper now that we are getting that under control. I know Dr. Brownstein well. He is our family doctor (my 2 children and hubby & I) and a friend of mine. If you look in the front of either his Thyroid or Iodine book you will see my name as someone who helped him edit these books. I help him with research as well - talk to him almost every night. Yes he is a fabulous doctor but he does not take new patients. If you are looking for a good doctor his friend and partner in the practice, Dr. Ng is very good. Everyone I have sent to him likes him. There is a caveat though. Many go to him thinking he will just do everything for them. You must be an active participant. His first appt is $375 and they do not take insurance. Follow up appts are $85. All labs are run through Quest Labs so you must have insurance that covers this as most labs run anywhere from $2,500 - 5, 000 for what they run. Mine were $4,200 before insurance. Also there are supplements that you will need to take and many are proprietary brands. When I started I was spending $300 - 400 / month on them. I was dying so I moved heaven and earth to get well. But if you can do that it is a great practice. www.centerforholisticmedicine.com Re: Thyroid hurts Ok ill try that, it does feel like my body is asking for more and I am noticing some positive effects from it. The hypo feeling might just be temporary. How much iodine are you on right now and how much natural thyroid?Do you know anything about Dr. Brownstein and is he a good doctor? Does he know how to treat autoimmune thyroid problems? Ive been to 3 doctors so far and all of them have no idea what their doing when it comes to hypothyroid.>> For some that is the case. Guest guest
My husband has hashi's but never went on meds. He was dx'd by Dr. B and we put him on iodine and companion nutrients and he hasn't needed any meds. He eliminated his antibodies with the protocol in just one year. But they were not out of control. Steph Re: Thyroid hurts Wow that is a lot of money, I think I pretty much know what I'm doing and hopefully the iodine thing works out for me. Ive had every test done so I wouldn't need any more tests except maybe the iodine loading urine test.Do you know of anyone else who has hashimotos hypothyroidism and has gotten off their thyroid medicine from using iodine? Ive had hashimotos for about 10 years and was wondering if there would be any chance of having my thyroid function normally again. Is Iodoral better than lugols?>> I don't have a thyroid. Guest guest
He started at 37.5 mgs Iodoral. Then he moved up to 50 mgs. He takes: Biotics Research: Mg Zyme Se-Zyme Pure Zen Health DMG complete Vit C 1,000 - 2,000 mgs / day from www.vrp.com Re: Thyroid hurts What type of iodine and how much did he take? Does he still take iodine? I've been on around 100 mcg of T4 for 9 years so maybe it's too late for me. The iodine is making my thyroid swell up and making me feel more hypo but it's usually only for about 5 hours after I take the iodine and then I start feeling a little better.> >> > I don't have a thyroid.
