I had also thought that, if anything, iodine should promote weight loss by regulating the thyroid and hence, metabolism. I'm so anxious to get rid of the weight I've gained from hydorcortisone and wasn't aware until now that I would be risking more with iodine.Could someone please elaborate on what is involved with "concentrating on detoxing" or "excreting the dead and displaced toxins so they aren't stored in fat"? Is that all the same as taking the companion supplements (following the protocol), or is there more to it? I want to make sure that I do it properly. Guest guest
I was really excited about starting iodine...But I'm now really deflated and concerned about the weight gain...I've gained and can't lose weight on 1200 calories per day due to hydrocortisone for adrenal fatigue. I can't emotionally tolerate anymore weight gain. This all seems so complicated, especially without the help of a doctor (which I've completely given up on). I don't understand how you are supposed to know what the right amount of iodine is.
Guest guest
What exactly do you need to do to manage your bromide detox? I'm so deflated about iodine after hearing about the weight gain. The depression factor in that for me is so huge. > > I think it is a matter of managing your bromide detox so that you are not releasing bromide off the receptors faster than you can get it out of the body. During my first few months of iodine I gained some weight but I was laid up in bed with sub-acute thyroiditis. Now though I have been watching calories and watching my detox and salt carefully and have lost 14 pounds in the last 12 weeks. I am still not exercising as my thyroiditis is not completely resolved and I don't have that much energy yet, so I imagine when I am ready to get back to the bowflex and build my muscles back that my rate of weight loss would increase. Before Iodine I couldn't lose a pound counting calories or carb watching for about 3-4 years so this is very encouraging to me. > > Engtovo > > > Re: Iodoral and weight gain? > Posted by: " lookonthebriteside " slehr05@... lookonthebriteside > Wed Jan 20, 2010 8:09 am (PST) > > > I'm about to start taking iodine, and I'm upset to hear about this weight gain effect. Guest guest
Well yes I did. I had actually weaned off the HC before I started the iodine. I didn’t like taking the HC and had gotten to where I just took it if I felt like I was getting very stressed. I had been taking some adrenal glandular for a couple months also but ran out during that time so I think I let my adrenals go without enough support. Guest guest
I got some Lugol's 2% drops to start, and I was doing it twice a day. The 5% was 2 drops to 12.5mg iodine, so the same as 1 Iodorol, and the 2% needed about 5 drops to be like 1 drop of the 5% - I was doing 5 drops in the morning for about a week, just to see if I felt bad, then I added 5 drops in the evening too, so that was a total of 12.5 mg a day. I did that for a few weeks, and ordered Iodorol, since I thought it would be easier to take, and I was having a tiny bit of stomach irritation, which I thought might be the drops. I got the Iodorol, and cut the tabs in half and took half in morning and half in evening for a few days, just to be sure it didn't do anything different than the drops. Then I went to whole one in morning and half in evening for a week, then went to whole one morning and evening. Then someone mentioned that most people take it all in the morning, since it can interfere with sleep. I was not experiencing that, but I moved it all to morning at that point, maybe a week or two ago. So, I am taking 25 mg every morning. I was very cautious, and maybe did not have to be, but it made me feel more comfortable about it. Guest guest
salt loading is explained here http://www.breastcancerchoices.org/drshevin.html There isn't really anywhere to figure it all out you just have to try different doses and see what works some people work up really slowly and others jump right in. I initially started at 25 mg last February and fairly quickly worked up to 100 mg. It took 75 mg to affect my goiter at the time. But after a few weeks at 100 mg my body started to really use the iodine well and I had to drop down to 25 mg. I think sometimes those who are really deficient or really sick are sort of iodine resistant at first and the body has to make some adjustments and then it starts to use the iodine better. One aspect for me I think was the first thing the iodine did is start to heal my gut and then I started to absorb the iodine and all the companion nutrients more efficiently and the iodine started to really push out the bromide effectively. Pulse dosing is just taking days off usually 5 days of iodoral then 2 days off so that your body can clear out bromide in the two days off before it starts causing symptoms, and give your organs a break from clearing all the bromide. I did that for a while at 25 mg when I first had to lower from 100 mg and it worked well and I felt fine on the days off as well, then after a while I was ok on Saturday but on Sunday I felt like I was craving the iodine So I figured it was time to go back to 7 days a week at the same dose and I was fine at 7 days a week. Then I felt ready to raise my dose to 37.5 and was prepared to pulse dose at the higher dose if necessary but I have been able to do that dose 7 days a week with only a couple issues coming up like the bromide rash I had a couple weeks back and the salt loading took care of that really quickly so I didn't feel the need to pulse dose or lower my dose. I think I will likely try and raise back to 50 mg sometime in February and see how that goes. People seem to be really fearful of bromide detox but it really isn't a huge deal if you get a bad headache from bromide and the salt loading doesn't seem to take care of it then if you take a day off it will go away right away. Bromide symptoms don't linger if you stop the iodine temporarily then you can simply restart at a lower dose and increase gradually. My mom started at the same time as me and she still takes 12.5 mg she didn't have any health issues to speak of and she is good at that dose. Her sleep has improved and some skin issues on her back that were the beginning of basil cell carcinoma which she has had twice before just disappeared some time since she started the iodine. We are not really sure when because they were in the middle of her back where she can't see them. Now and then people who start at a really low dose feel bad like it is enough iodine to get the body tuned in but not enough to actually do anything I had been taking kelp in ignorance before finding out about the iodine protocol and it aggravated all kinds of things, but I had no idea at the time it was the kelp doing it. So for those people maybe they take half and iodoral and feel terrible but jump up to 25 mg or 50 mg and feel fine. If you feel bad at low dose it's not likely bromide because it takes a fair amount to push the bromide out. Lots of people on the list who have hashis have said they feel bad at low dose and fine at a higher dose. So I don’t think people should be afraid to try different things. Some people have no bromide reactions because they don't have a lot of other toxins in their body and the body can handle getting rid of the bromide. If you have Candida though you may already have some overload of toxins from that. If your lymph system or liver are already overloaded from other issues you are more likely to have issues getting rid of the bromide. We are all unique Sometimes you may be at a dose several days before any bromide reaction as it starts to build up in the body. That is why the pulse dosing can help. You may want to do the math when considering pulse dosing too like 25 mg 7 days a week is 175 mg a week pulsing 37.5 is 187.5 which is not a whole lot more iodine per week. If you can do 25 comfortably that may make more sense. When you move up 37.5 - 7 days a week is 262.5 mg per week pulse dosing 50 mg is only 250 mg so you are actually getting more iodine doing 37.7 - 7 days a week then pulsing 50 mg. I know a lot of people are not experienced or very comfortable with just trying different things but that just the way it is with this therapy Engtovo Re: Iodoral and weight gain? Guest guest
Sherry, You don’t necessarily experience detox symptoms, only if you are not clearing them out of your body well. If they are released and get out of your body, they don’t show up. So just because you are taking iodine and don’t feel symptoms does not mean you are not detoxing. When you do experience symptoms, then you do the extra salt to help clear them out, and then you don’t feel the symptoms anymore. Guest guest
The best explanations are on the following sights: www.breastcancerchoices.org www.naturalthyroidchoices.com We are bombarded with fluoride, chlorine, and bromide everyday, so in reality, everyone is probably toxic. Therefore, we all need to detox, i.e., get rid of the toxins. It just sounded weird to me when people said they were " toxic " ...I just wanted to make sure I was properly understanding. I think you are right...We are probably all toxic! Guest guest
Here here on that intestinal gut flora. I have crohn's and since I have started on the iodoral 2 1/2 weeks ago, things have been great. Going 3 times a day instead of 20, has been great!!!!!!!!! I just have a sleeping problem is all but otherwise I will contine with iodoral, the companion supplements and salt loading. I'm looking forward to increasing my dose. Today has been the first day that I didn't sweat to death from menopause. I'm looking forward to many more of those days until that crap stops all together. To live with no period is great!!!!!!!! I'm actually looking forward to growing old big time.Pssssstttt. My sex life has been better too! I had to say that. I apologize if that offends anyone but I just had to let you women know that. It is an important part of our lives, at least I think it is. from IllinoisFrom: cheryl_b_1 <mossyforrest@...>iodine Sent: Wed, January 20, 2010 12:53:06 PMSubject: Re: Iodoral and weight gain? First, I would avoid antibiotics for the plague they are... They should be the weapon of last resort. Iodine is the first. C, mag, Se, milk thistle, salt, water are next. Increase all of those before antibiotics and just see if antibiotics are even necessary. I think iodine is selective, it can differentiate good from bad bacteria but there may be research to say otherwise, i dont know for sure or if anyone has really looked at that aspect. I do know tho there are none of the symptoms of good bacteria being eliminated as with antibiotics so that would lead me to think iodine doesnt upset the intestinal bacteria. There is some research that iodine helps the protective lining in the intestines and other mucousal linings. Guest guest
Start out with small amounts increasing a little bit at a time.. Companion supplements, good diet, drink lots of water and you are on your way. You have to start somewhere. Also keep in mind our bodies are not all the same. Someone that is gaining weight may still be taking in more calories, may still be taking in higher sugars, starchs and so on. I came here and felt the way you did a month ago. Then when I felt I understood everything and felt I could follow the protocal even with the salt loading I went for it.What really gets me and correct me somebody if I am wrong, iodine is a supplement. It isn't a prescription that a GP is writing out. I have noticed that some people act like iodine is a poison but yet if a doctor would write out a prescription for something they head to the pharmacy and fill it and start taking it without batting an eye. Don't be scared. Small increments, if you feel better about that thenwork your way up, but please follow the protocal. You can't just take this supplement and expect a miracle right away. Keep in mind with any holistic supplement that our bodiy needs, it can take anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks to feel any benefit from it.That is the way I feel about it and I just thought I would share. Please do read 's web site and any links that you find in the archives so you can understand why you are taking it, understand what it is doing in your body and read, read, read,
