What issues do you have that have caused you to start iodine?

It is common unfortunately for people to have weight gain. Are you taking the companion nutrients? The reason why some people gain weight is because iodine increases the release of toxins. For those that have an overloaded detox pathway, their bodies will store the toxins in fat to protect them from them. So you need to look into detoxing your liver, kidneys, etc.

Higher amounts of iodine as Gracia suggested may not be the answer. It may ony put more toxins out into an already overloaded system. That's what happened to me.

I've heard you say this before and I do not understand it. If the toxins are

already in your body wouldn't they be presumably stored in fat? How does

detoxing release them to newly created fat?

I am not sure. Bromide is stored on the NIS receptors so that maybe part of it.

I have seen it over and over. Those who are toxic - myself included- when taking iodine start to move toxins and it increases fat. When I concentrate on detoxing it stops.

Carina,

When you take iodine, you create more toxins. The iodine kills bacteria, virus

(the ones lurking in your body) fungus and parasites. Iodine also displaces

bromide, flouride, aluminum, mercury and other equally bad things. All of these

coming out of your other body cells are in addition to what is already

stored/living in your fat cells. So if your pathways are blocked and you arent

excreting the dead and displaced toxins new fat is created to store it. Make

sense?

So you must make sure you excrete what the iodine kills and displaces or more

fat.

At least thats how i interpret it.

I'm about to start taking iodine, and I'm upset to hear about this weight gain

effect. I had also thought that, if anything, iodine should promote weight loss

by regulating the thyroid and hence, metabolism. I'm so anxious to get rid of

the weight I've gained from hydorcortisone and wasn't aware until now that I

would be risking more with iodine.

Could someone please elaborate on what is involved with " concentrating on

detoxing " or " excreting the dead and displaced toxins so they aren't stored in

fat " ? Is that all the same as taking the companion supplements (following the

protocol), or is there more to it? I want to make sure that I do it properly.

After taking antibiotics, we should take yogurt or acidopholus to replenish the

'good' bacteria, cause antibiotics kill all bacteria.

Since iodine kills bacteria, is there a similar issue, or is it more

selective?Jim

It is alarming and I plan to discontinue immediately. I have not noticed any benefit from iodoral. I have gotten good energy from other iodine products in high dosages like Standard Process Iodomere. But I am not very toxic- I can't buy into weight gain caused by toxins.... I have 1 filling in my head and have eaten organic for years. All set w/ iodoral. Let's not ring the alarmist bell here.

How much Iodoral are you taking Bonnie? Are you taking the companion nutrients. If you don't take enough or the right supplements then - yes you won't feel the benefits. For each person the dosage is different. I felt a minimal effect at 50 mgs but 100 Mgs is better.

Yes everyone pretty much detoxes but some have more toxins in their body.

I was thinking more in the line of hashimotos, cancer, EBV, Lyme. Just to name a few.

I used a green tea supplement. Not sure if it has fluoride. I don't know how it is extracted but it isn't the leaves.

Steph

Re: Iodoral and weight gain?

Thanks, Steph...But I'm not sure what you mean when you say your body was toxic. Doesn't pretty much everyone detox when starting iodine (though some have more symptoms than others)? So, how do you know if you are toxic? As for chronic health conditions that would cause one to be toxic, do adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism fall in that category?Also...Doesn't green tea extract contain fluoride?----------------------------------------------------------> It should promote weight loss but that is if your body is not toxic. Many do not have this issue. It happens to a few. Especially those with chronic health conditions.> > It depends on where your body is compromised when it comes to detoxing. For me it is liver and kidneys so I use Metagenics Ultra Clear Plus pH, dandelion root extract, chick weed, green tea extract pills, NAC, dead sea salt baths, magnesium oil. You have to find what works for you.> > Steph

So, those who are toxic have really bad detox symptoms when starting

iodine?...That's how you would know you are toxic?

They only have reactions when they take enough iodine to get to detoxing. For me it took 125 mgs.

You'd have to test. Loading test with bromide levels is one. There are many test. Urine, blood, hair......

I agree. Still slightly confused how someone could take what I said to mean stop

and be so alarmed! Course, knowing that stuff is in the body can be alarming.

I have lost weight. 40 pounds.

But in December, after 6 months, I experienced weight gain.

First 5 months on iodine I lost about 40 pounds, but the last month I have

gained 10 back. It was the holidays, so stress may have been a factor. I was

extremely stressed for about 30 days (work related). I did change my

iodine/supplements habits a bit too tho. Cause I was having some heavy detox

(maybe the stress effected that too cause i having very few detox symptoms

before holiday stress!) so i did some half dose days thinking it would help.

I have since gone back to 50mg and what i noticed most i am not craving

icecream anymore once i went back up.That goes into my theory that food cravings

are nothing more than PICA and the bodies way of saying it needs more

something!)

I also increased my mag. That helps remove the toxins, too. And more milk

thistle or silymarin for the liver. I increased my adrenal support, too. I've

already started losing the weight I put back on (ok maybe only a few pounds, but

I am still overweight by about 30 pounds). More importantly, i feel better

again. Stess is over as well so thats a factor.

Make sure you are drinking enough water to get the toxins out, too. I think that

was one of my problems too. And lack of exercise!

So, I think weight gain OR loss is very dependant on if you are detoxing, your

support supplements and how much iodine you take. Obviously those with no weight

issues, fairly healthy people who eat right and have no adrenal or liver damage

may have less toxins and other damage to their bodies and therefore need less

iodine and support.

Those who have known thyroid damage, weight issues, adrenal issues, viral/fungal

issues, who eat bad stuff (like me at times!) are going to be more iodine

deficient, have more toxins and will need more support to not simply move the

toxins to fat.

I can't do testing right now...I was laid off from my job and don't have

insurance. I'm a bit confused. If I never take enough iodine to get to detoxing

(I don't plan on going up to 125 mg, and if that were my detox point, for

example), I could still be toxic and not know...and have the weight gain effect?

Or would the weight gain never manifest because I didn't get to that point

because I wasn't taking enough iodine?

Does taking the companion supplements with whatever amount of iodine one is

taking greatly decrease the risk of weight gain?

When i started Iodine i had some viral dieoff symptoms (flu like)they went away

and didnt have any other detox symptoms for a few months. Ive only bad detox

symptoms when i wasnt taking the correct support supplements.

You know you are iodine deficient and toxic if:

you dont feel well (and modern medicine says well thats age or " insert your own

docs excuse " for not knowing the cause but can sure give you a little pill for

the symptom)

weight issues

always tired

depression

hot or cold all the time

diagnosed with cancer

moles or age spots

hair loss

fungal infections

digestive issues

sleep issues

sick alot

ocd behavior

Those are a few main signs, the complete lists are in the files and on Stephs

website.

Thanks, Cheryl...I'm still a little confused about toxic/detox, but...You didn't

gain any weight when you started iodine? You actually lost weight and only

gained over the holidays, which was likely unrelated to iodine?

How long did your " viral dieoff " detox last when you first started iodine? How

much did you start with and how did you increase?

I think the stress of the holidays created more adrenal issues, so I couldnt

tolerate the detox level of the higher dose of iodine because i am very toxic

and detox more at higher dosages. So it was related to iodine. And stress. I

think now i should have kept the dosage of iodine the same and increased mag and

adrenal/liver support.Hopefully it will be a while before i have that kind of

stress again to test it!

The initial dieoff lasted about a week. The iodine first kills all the less

hardy virus and bad bacteria lurking in the body. The more difficult to

eliminate virus take more time and more iodine.

Not everyone will have the initial dieoff symptoms, i tink most that are fairly

constantly sick (a sign of viral infestation) do tho. It will all depend on how

toxic the person is and what else they take as to what symptoms happen. I

started at around 15mg and went up pretty fast to 50mg. I take mine in the

form of Lugols 2%, some ingested and most transdermal.

First, I would avoid antibiotics for the plague they are... They should be the

weapon of last resort. Iodine is the first. C, mag, Se, milk thistle, salt,

water are next. Increase all of those before antibiotics and just see if

antibiotics are even necessary.

I think iodine is selective, it can differentiate good from bad bacteria but

there may be research to say otherwise, i dont know for sure or if anyone has

really looked at that aspect. I do know tho there are none of the symptoms of

good bacteria being eliminated as with antibiotics so that would lead me to

think iodine doesnt upset the intestinal bacteria. There is some research that

iodine helps the protective lining in the intestines and other mucousal linings.

Sorry Steph- weight gain has been an on going and very depressing part of my thyroid/adrenal journey. More so because I'm in the fitness industry and need to look a certain way - like - not fat - to be credible and have an income.I am using 12.5mgs iodoral. I use vitamin c, b5/b6, ATP cofactors, Celtic salt, and cytomel. I have noticed that something is definitely happening hormonally as my breasts are much fuller and I wondered if my estrogen level is coming up - which would be ok- since I have low estrogen and irregular cycles.I really did FEEL something more significant with Iodomere- but who knows. I definitely don't notice anything significant w/ Iodoral minus the breast thing. I don't necesarily want to increase the dosage because I'm trying to clear what exists of RT3 and fear that too much iodine will stress my adrenals or contribute to T4 - and I could be off base about these things....I appreciate your input - and I'll try not to freak out;)Sent from my iPhoneOn Jan 20, 2010, at 11:36 AM, "ladybugsandbees" <ladybugsandbees@...> wrote:

I think it is a matter of managing your bromide detox so that you are not releasing bromide off the receptors faster than you can get it out of the body. During my first few months of iodine I gained some weight but I was laid up in bed with sub-acute thyroiditis. Now though I have been watching calories and watching my detox and salt carefully and have lost 14 pounds in the last 12 weeks. I am still not exercising as my thyroiditis is not completely resolved and I don't have that much energy yet, so I imagine when I am ready to get back to the bowflex and build my muscles back that my rate of weight loss would increase. Before Iodine I couldn't lose a pound counting calories or carb watching for about 3-4 years so this is very encouraging to me.
