Guest guest
I received this response on another board upon suggesting that someone get an iodine loading test. I politely responded back and sent several links that refute what he is saying. Why do so many doctors have such different views on iodine? How do patients know who is right? I don't mean the people on our boards, but the general public without any knowledge whatsoever. I was trying to help someone, and I get this response. I would be hard pressed to believe that 80% of the US hypo population is so due to Hashimotos. Every book I've read, and there have been plenty, point to an iodine deficiency.I usually remain fairly silent on this group as it is a place for the families suffering from the damage of the Gardasil vaccine. I try to add information where I see relevant. I have to chime in on this one. I primarily treat autoimmune disease in my clinic with Hashimoto's being the number one autoimmune condition I treat. I also have treated close to 50 girls who have suffered from reactions to the Gardasil vaccine and several of those have had Hashimoto's turn on due to the Gardasil vaccine. In reply to the previous post I MUST say DO NOT GIVE IODINE under any circumstance if you suspect Hashimoto's. The number one cause of thyroid problems worldwide is iodine deficiency; HOWEVER, the number one cause of thyroid problems in the US is Hashimoto's accounting for 80% of hypothyroism in the US. Hashimoto's is an autoimmune condition; therefore it is an immune problem and not a thyroid problem. Take all the thyroid medication you want and the thyroid will continue to be destroyed by the immune system. Most people with Hashimoto's have positive TPO antibodies. TPO stands for thyroid peroxidase. A positive antibody test means that the immune system is attacking the TPO. Iodine stimulates the production of TPO and therefore would increase the attack on the thyroid. We have seen this in areas in Africa, China, India and Sri Lanka where goiters were treated with iodine and the instances of Hashimoto's skyrocketed. I highly recommend a new book that has just been published called "Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms When My Lab Tests Are Normal?" by Dr. Datis Kharrazian. It is the most accurate book ever to be published on the function of the thyroid. It takes about 6 different patterns of thyroid dysfunction, only one of which will respond to thyroid medication. In fact, there are a total of 52 different physiological dysfunctions that can lead to thyroid dysfunction but the book covers the 6 most common ones. I wish I had more time to dive into this topic, in the mean time go to Amazon.com and get the book. I think they sell it for $13.00. Have a blessed and DON'T give iodine
