Guest guest
Two years ago my ex was diagnosed with 3rd stage Melanoma that was in his lymph nodes. As well as doing most of what the doctor's said, he went to a naturopath (who I am sure saved his life). The naturopath told him that cancer loved sugar. He immediately stopped eating anything with sugar in it, other than fruits and vegetables. He hasn't eaten any sugar since. The ironic thing is that when he went to the cancer clinic for his appts. and radiation, the first thing he saw was a plate of cookies in the waiting room. Didn't give him much faith in modern medicine. By the way, (with fingers crossed) it is 2 years later and he is fine and doing heavy landscaping again. Regards, Sharon (Ontario) Canada The program " The View " had a segment on " Sugar " Fri.10-22-04 Hi Everybody, I was home at 11 AM today and was watching " The View " . I was happy to hear that they were having a segment on sugar. I did jot down notes. The part I did remember was that you should have only 40 total grams of sugar for the day or no more than 10 added teaspoons a day. I also remember Joy saying that there are the good sugars and natural sugars like milk, fruits and vegetables. The glycemic index shows beets, carrots and baked potatoes as a high sugar food. Joy said don't worry about the fruits and vegetables like beets and carrots and baked potatoes on that high glycemic list. Was happy to hear that because I have my vegetable juice daily with beets and carrots in it. Here's those notes from the website. Have a good evening everybody! Hugs, Janice from Ohio The nutritionist Joy Bauer showed us the surprising effect sugar has on our bodies. Sugar can do more than just put on pounds and give us cavities; it can actually cause mood swings, irritability and incredible fatigue. According to Joy, if you consume food with a concentrated amount of sugar, you're going to get a rise in your blood sugar level. This will trigger your body's insulin to take the sugar out of your blood and into your cells, bringing you right back down and causing you to feel out of it. Below you will find a simple guideline to consider when preparing your meals or grocery shopping. If the effects of sugar are still not clear, please visit joybauernutrition.com. You may also refer to one of Joy's books for other nutritional questions. These books are 90/10 Weight-Loss Plan, Cooking with Joy or The Complete Idiot's Guide to Total Nutrition. Be sure to look for these hidden sugars when reviewing ingredients on packaging labels: Added or Processed Sugars: Sugar (raw, brown or white) Corn syrup High fructose corn syrup Honey Molasses Fruit juice concentrate 40 total grams of sugar is the recommended allowance per day. This amount is equal to 10 teaspoons. Good sugars are natural sugars that can also provide nutrition. Good Sugars: Low-fat milk Skim milk Apples Pineapple Strawberries Cantaloupe Tomato Cucumber Sweet potato A High Glycemic Index is a rating that lists foods that can increase the body's sugar levels. If the list includes fruits and vegetables, do not worry about them. Good Sugars with High Glycemic Index: Beets Carrots Bananas Grapes Oranges Whole wheat bread Baked potatoes Try to stay away from starches. White flour quickly converts into sugar when digested. Stick with browns. Bad Sugars: 2 tbs. of Jelly or Jam = 4 tsp. sugar Sugar Cereals = 4 tsp. sugar ¼ cup of Light Pancake Syrup = 6 tsp. sugar Dried Fruit = 18 tsp. sugar Ketchup = 4 tsp. sugar Orange Juice & Apple Juice = 6 tsp. sugar Iced Tea = 11 tsp. sugar 20 oz. Cola = 17.5 tsp. sugar Frozen Yogurt = 8 tsp. sugar Slice of Chocolate Cake = 8 tsp. sugar It has not been scientifically proven that sugar causes hyperactivity in children. Be your own investigator. If you notice that a particular sweet makes your child hyper, keep it away from them around bedtime. Keep sugar out of your meals and beverages. Consume smaller amounts and eat more real food. If you'd like to substitute sugar, you can use Splenda or Equal in moderation. Typical Day of Food (10 teaspoons of sugar) Breakfast: Egg white omelet w/ tomatoes and whole wheat toast ½ grapefruit Coffee w/ 1 tsp. sugar Lunch: Cup of veggie or lentil soup A scoop of tuna with mayo on a bed of greens Snack: Handful of almonds An apple and some carrots Dinner: Turkey burger on wheat bun w/ 2 tablespoons of ketchup (= 2 tsp. sugar) Sautéed broccoli in olive oil and garlic Dessert: 2 chocolate chip cookies and a glass of skim milk (= 3 tsp. sugar)
Guest guest
I don't understand it. I have told lots of people about the naturopath and about the sugar and other things, and they just hump their shoulders and act as if I am talking crazy. I also told a woman I see all the time at the local supermarket about how taking Vit B6 and turmeric and bromaine had really helped my carpal tunnel. She is a cashier and wears a brace on both wrists. She also told me that she had had both of them operated on before and it had returned. She didn't pay a bit of attention to what I was saying. What a great story. Good for you Sharon. Why can't we reach people?
Guest guest
Isn't that so frustrating, Sharron. The only person I've said anything to that listened to me was my dentist. On my history she asked about food allergies or sensitivities. I mentioned the avoids and where I checked arthritis mentioned that avoiding the foods had stopped it, and she really seemed to find that interesting. The ones with newly developed arthritis, just look at me and say " but it so easy to just take a pill " . My good O friend is waiting for gastric bypass surgery. she's a vegetarian eating dairy and soy (and I suspect a nonsecretor by her diseases list) and she is in constant pain from severe fibromyalgia and whatever else - bloated beyond all recognition as her prior self. But try an O diet? no chance. Her diet could not be worse fro her and by-pass surgery is not going to change that. (Currently she is too ill for the surgery and she's trying to persuade the doctor to do it before she gets worse....) You can't help someone who doesn't want it :-( My father died rather than try what I knew would help. His choice - but gee... Namaste, Irene -- Irene de Villiers, B.Sc; AASCA; MCSSA; D.I.Hom.
