Guest guest Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 What nuts are you snacking on? What other snacks do you have? Are you drinking enough water? Biotin is supplement form for high dose to counteract deficiency. Needs B-complex and Vit C to help assimilate. Brewer's yeast, cooked egg yolk, beef, poultry, saltwater fish. Mostly associated with hair problems, not nails. Nails could be minerals, silica, B-complex, iron Kathy Tamara <tamaratornado@...> wrote: The candida diet I am on you can join the group The leader of the group is not friendly to BTD. However the diet she advocates is so similar to type O diet it is not to worry. I have had some die-off symptoms but not so severe. I have way fewer headaches now than before I started the diet, and my tongue is clean, (I used to have a white coating on my tongue) Also my athelete's foot is much much better. I lost 6 lbs. I would like to loose 10 more. I beleive the nuts I've been cheating on might have to do with not loosing more. Plus I should exercise more. I still have a number of symptoms I would like to heal, so I need more time on it. - T I've been on type-O friendly candida diet since July 4. Guest guest Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 You may now need some Calcium to go with the Magnesium. Tamara <tamaratornado@...> wrote: I eat twice a day, protien about the size of my fist. With vegetables and fat. I was taking " Natural Calm " magnesium and it felt really good for a few months, now it doens't work as well, I think my body is changing its needs and I've been having trouble finding the right amount. I was taking some trace minerals and stopped when I ran out, I could get some more. I am also taking kelp daily I think that affect fingernails. Guest guest Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Hi, Here's the low-down on fingernails:-))) Tamara wrote: > What's biotin? Do you take it as a supplement? What foods have biotin? It's a B vitamin which works to help other B vitamins work properly (like pantothenic acid, folic acid and B12 and you can't make niacin without biotin). It is involved in making nucleic acid (necessary for cell repair so as to make the cell nucleus) and for oxidation of fatty acids and carbohydrates. You can get 1000 ug supplement capsules. If you have good gut bacteria they will help you with making some. Getting it from food is less easy as you get very little in any one food but it's in most foods in trace amounts unless the B vits are damaged by time or processing (which they usually are so it is hard to get enough in food). Also, if you eat rancid fats (like veg oil not kept in the fridge) that will wipe out your biotin. Best food options are brewer's yeast, lamb liver, royal jelly, rice polish (or " unpolished " rice), nuts, egg yolk, sardines and mushrooms. Note: Though biotin is in egg yolk, the enzyme avidin in egg white will destroy any biotin eaten at the same meal, if the white is not cooked. (Heat inactivates avidin.) If you take Vit C and/or alpha lipoic acid you MUST take extra biotin as well - to be able to use Vit c properly - and because alpha lipoic will deplete your biotin. Biotin also helps hair so you don't go bald or grey:-) RDA is 300 micrograms but supplements of 1000 micrograms (1 milligram) makes more sense. In studies as much as 150 milligrams or more per day has been used IV to overcome deficiencies. It's water soluble. If you are diabetic it is especially important. Other nail-affecting nutrient deficiencies: * Protein or incomplete protein: Makes nails get opaque white bands, or makes them dry, brittle and thin. * Wrong protein (incomplete), Vit A or Calcium: Makes brittle and dry. * Multiple B vit deficiency: Vertical or horizontal ridges, fragile nails. * Hydrochloric acid deficiency: Nails split. * Vit C, folic acid: Hangnails * Iron: dry, brittle, thin, flat nails, eventually spoon-shape. * Vit B6 and zinc: white spots on nails. * Circulation problems: thick nails is a sign. * Heart problems: Red moons are a sign. * Lung probs: blue nails an indication * Anemia/liver/kidney problems: white nails a sign. * Liver disease: white lines a sign * Hormone disorders: wide square nails (like mine - I have cushing's syndrome) Namaste, Irene -- Irene de Villiers, B.Sc, AASCA, MCSSA, D.I.Hom/D.Vet.Hom. Guest guest Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 Why do you think you are eating too many nuts? What is wrong with nuts? How many are you eating? Re: weak fingernails? I eat mostly almonds, and I try to soak them in water as Sally Fallon recommends to neutralize the phytates. But sometimes I eat them unsoaked. I have eaten some avoid nuts though, Brazils and pistachios. I know I am eating too many nuts -- alot of it is that I need something to snack on that I can just grab, not have to prepare. I want to buy a dehydrator and make my own meat jerky. my oven doens't work at low temps. I think having a pile of dried, ready to eat meat around would help alot with the nut thing. I never understood the 8 glasses of water thing. I feel awful when I try to do that. I drink about 2 or 3 glasses of water in the morning, and a few more during the day, maybe 4 - 6 all together. Any more than that doens't work for me. I'm eating all those foods that have biotin, except the brewer's yeast. I'm taking B-complex. - T I've been on type-O friendly > candida diet since July 4. Guest guest Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 AS others have asked? Why do you think you are eating too many nuts??? The fat? Forget it, they have good fat. Also good protein and minerals in most. They are a good snack. You can;t just eat meat all the time Kathy Tamara <tamaratornado@...> wrote: I eat mostly almonds, and I try to soak them in water as Sally Fallon recommends to neutralize the phytates. Guest guest Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 I was just curious what type of lung problems. My nails are frequently bluish sometimes 1/2 way up. weird. tho I've been on pulsox and it showed at 98-99% .. (I do have sleep apnea tho (mild)...it gets worse when I'm cold and my extremities are always cold (my temps run in 96.8-97.9 most of the time although sometimes I get to the 98 degree range.) (thyroid test show ok). > * Lung probs: blue nails an indication --------------------------------- New Messenger with Voice. Call regular phones from your PC and save big. Quote
Guest guest Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 Likely thyroid even though test show normal. TSH, T-3 & T-4 all have to work right and the regular test doesn't show them. I don't have the technical info on their workings. Low adrenal is possible and low sodium is possible. Check peripheral circulation, sticky blood.
