Guest guest
Have you had your thyroid, adrenals and possibly estrogen/progesterone checked? Depression? Anxiety? Stress? Also do you eat within 2 hours of bed or have coffee before bed? Those are the things that helped me because I have insomnia too. Also, Melatonin in time release lower doses work better for me. some people think that higher doses would work better, but for many it's just the opposite. I used to take 5mg and had horrible dreams and it didn't help. I had to get off of unisom because I was dependant on it. Now I take 3mg time release and sleeping better. I may even go down to 1 or .5mg. Guest guest
Thank you everyone- Yes, have had adrenals and everything else tested. Adrenals are out of whack and am working on that - Cortisol levels are also higher than normal. Have even had sleep studies done. Under the care of a great D.O. and Nutritionist, which are both puzzled by the sleep issue and nothing responding to it. I like the idea of the 5-HTP. It sounds like it would aid. What dosage did you end up taking? When? How many nights before you sensed a change? > > > > Has anyone had any experience with iodine helping insomnia? > > > > No problems falling asleep. Guest guest
Hi Tammy,I, too have had insomnia and Melatonin etc didn't work. I recently did a hair tissue mineral analysis through ARL in Arizona which highlighted that some of my mineral patterns are out of whack and hence one of the problems I have is insomnia. My adrenals and my thyroid have taken a beating over the years and hence why I am dealing with cancer. Hair tissue mineral analysis is a great tool for a Naturopath or holistic practitioner to use if they are stumped as to what is going on. My practitioner is now focussing on getting all the macro-minerals (calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium) up to their normal levels again in my system to combat this problem as well as a host of others. this avenue is not a "quick fix" symptom relief option, but it truly will make you more healthy over time. It is tailored at what your body needs as well as safely mobilizing heavy metals out of our system that often cannot be released from the fat tissue because our adrenals aren't doing their job properly.I started last week and I am sleeping really well and I already feel better overall. Might be worthwhile to mention to your ND.Eva.
Guest guest
you might try L Tryptophane...it really helps some with sleep issues...you take it about 1 hour before bedtime....and really works....i think 500 mg is the starting dose....From: Tressler <kartrss@...>Subject: Insomnia & Iodineiodine Date: Saturday, September 19, 2009, 2:01 AM Melatonin helps you fall asleep but doesn't help you stay asleep. When I take it, I wake up at four hours like clockwork so I quit taking it.... Try making sure you are laying down (even if you are not sleeping or tired) at 10:00. Someone recommended this and it does seem to help. Also, when you get up in the morning if it's daylight, try to get 10 minutes of light outside before you start your day. That helped me most this summer. Iodine does not seem to help me sleep. Good luck! Guest guest
I know sqaudossh about Iodine but FWIW, Dr Blaylock recommends 3000mg buffered VitC, 300mg Magnesium Citrate/Malate, and up to 15mg Melatonin. I also added 1000mg of GABA, 100mg 5-HTP and 100mg of Suntheanine. I take this combo and am not waking up in the middle of the night like I used to and if I do, I get right back to sleep.
