Guest guest
Thanks Shelia - really appreciate your help. Was diagonsed hypo about 7 years ago (after looong investigations!) but over last 2 or 3 years ago I've been getting steadily more ill - with things I had never associated with my thyrid - nor had my doctor! After research on my own, I decided to try Arnour last November (although had to switch to a generic after I couldn't get it.) I was absolutely terrified to self-medicate, but figured I had nothing to lose. My GP had tried referring me to en Endocrinologist, but he refused to see me as my levels were within range - and he suggested that " he suggested that my GP refer me to a dermatologst re my alopecia " - funnily enough my hair has stopped falling out since I started taking dessicated thyriod! Although I noticed drastic improvements initially, I've been a bit rough recently. Think this may be because I incresed my dessicated dose too quickly? I'm at 5 grains - but do split them over 4 doses. Is this a good idea? The " female " probems I had been experiencing seem to have settled down a bit - thank god! Never had such hellish PMT - for 3 weeks of the month! And the other week - well lets not go there! The other multitude of problems seem to come and go - and I'm still a bit low. So I'm still self-treating - and paying for private tests (although interpreting them is fun!) And have now discovered I have adrenal fatigue! REALLy don't want to start Crtisol without help. Hoping to see Dr Skinner the next time he's in my neck of the woods! Have to admit, I thought it woudl be strange telling all this to a bunch of strangers - but after reading some of the posts it's just nice to be able to " tal " to people who understand. Up until recently I thought I was going nuts! lol! Thanks again. Keri xx PS Incidenatlly, any and all helpo / suggestions / advise would be GREATLY appreciated from the group - I'm still VERY nervous about self-treating. > > HI Keri - and welcome to our forum where I hope you get all the > help and support you need. Guest guest
Hi, I recently started self-medicating with Armour Thyroid, I felt so ill I wanted to try it, but I did do alot of research first about natural dessicated thyroid, there are other groups on who talk about taking natural thyroid, and there is alot of information on the files on this web site. There was also a book called 'Stop the Thyroid Madness' by Janie (can't remember her sirname), but if you google this title it will come up. Good luck Ann > > Thanks Shelia - really appreciate your help. > > Was diagonsed hypo about 7 years ago (after looong investigations!) > but over last 2 or 3 years ago I've been getting steadily more ill - > with things I had never associated with my thyrid - nor had my > doctor! > > After research on my own, I decided to try Arnour last November > (although had to switch to a generic after I couldn't get it.) Guest guest
Although I noticed drastic improvements initially, I've been a bit rough recently. Think this may be because I incresed my dessicated dose too quickly? I'm at 5 grains - but do split them over 4 doses. Is this a good idea? Yes - how often did you increase your dose of Armour. We recommend you increase by only half a grain every 4 weeks. This is because of the active hormone T3 and T2. Your body needs to get used to each increase as it has a very short half life, and peaks after a couple of hours. However, taking your Armour at least four times a day probably stopped any adverse reactions, so that was good. Tell us in what way you feel " rough " and can you give us your last thyroid function test results, together with the reference range please? So I'm still self-treating - and paying for private tests (although interpreting them is fun!) And have now discovered I have adrenal fatigue! REALLy don't want to start Crtisol without help. Up until recently I thought I was going nuts! lol! Where about do you live in the UK - I ask this because Dr Skinner is based in Birmingham, though I believe he still might have the occasional clinic in Glasgow. Are you hoping that he will be able to deal with your adrenal problems. He seems reluctant these days since being reported to the GMC for daring to diagnose hypothyroid patients who have thyroid function tests within the reference range, and for daring to start them on thyroid hormone replacement. Although he won his case, the GMC have him on 'probation' for three years and he has to report everything he does, and because of the NHS refusal to recognise any shades of grey between 's disease and Cushing's syndrome, he doesn't want to risk being reported yet again for doing something else outside of the NHS protocol. The person to see to help you with this is Dr Peatfield, though you could well get the help and support you need here. Nobody is automatically put straight onto HC if they have low adrenal reserve, we recommend they go on a course of Nutri Adrenal Extra (adrenal glandulars) and many of us get on well using these and often, they prove sufficient at getting our adrenal function working again. Read what you can about adrenals in our FILES on this forum website and also in our website www.tpa-uk.org.uk Luv - Sheila Thanks again.
