Guest guest
O.K., which book to get first, and, can any of the info. be accessed on the web instead of buying loads of books ? I was going to get the ER4YT and the encyclopedia one sounded good, but now you've mentioned this other one , and there's one on the list about diabetes - which I am at risk from [ seeing the doc tomorrow re. insulin resistance possibility] - so what do you suggest please ? I don't get much time for reading and do already have the small 'Food, Beverage and Supplement Lists book for type O. thankyou )

It covers weight management as well. I think > it's also available in soft cover now, so you could keep your budget > down I just bought a second copy of it in hardcover from half.com for $2 plus shipping, total around five bucks. They say there " might be a black mark on it " but I can't find it if so on either copy. (The 2nd copy is for a friend as I can't spare mine - I use it all the time.) I have insulin resistant diabetes and another great book is " The Insulin Resistance Diet " by Hart and Grossman " which I got new off ebay at a reduced price. This gives how to combine foods to prevent or handle insulin resistance. I found it invaluable for that principle - but need to adjust the suggested ratios to suit my higher protein needs. And you have to ignore the rubbish about eating a bunch of carbs. Carbs make diabetics fat. they need to eat less carbs and more fat to avoid weight gain. The body *stores* carbs as fat much faster than it stores oil/fat in diabetes. So where they say 14g protein to 30g carbs - I ignore that and eat as much protein as I want, and I get my carbs from two sources: * fibers like pure rice bran which thicken my " gravy " * spinach, kale, green pepper, mushroom etc that the book considers " freebies " . In my case I can not handle any heavy carb items like sweet potato, beets, pumpkin, fruit etc. Even a 1/4 cup spikes my blood glucose more than 100 points. If you are not as badly insulin resistant as me (I have cushings syndrome) you can use more of those O carbs - but it teaches to balance carb with protein eaten *at the same time*. And of course oil and fat are the diabetic's friend - no blood glucose or insulin resistance triggers there. The book has lots of recipes, which are not type O compatible but I have " adjusted " many of them and found some good ideas. So in my case I am using a combination of the diabetes D'Adamo book and this insulin resistance one and a third on by Dr Bernstein. And what I did is buy an extra copy of the Blood type O food lists so as to mark that up with what works for me. My first copy was marked up so badly before I got the diagnosis of IRD that I decided I needed to start fresh :-) Dr Bernstein's book has what you need to know about diabetes that the AMerican Diabetes Association will not tell you. It advocates the proper high protein for diabetes instead of the rubbish that the general mill and ADA is touting - so if you are even close to having diabetes of any type (and type II is usually insulin resistant) get the book by Dr Bernstein. He's a diabetic and he and his patients do just great on a proper high protein diet. His book reads like the best common sense I've seen in a long time, there are some pages to read free at ebay and I ordered the book based on the sense he makes in the ten or so sample pages. > The best book overall in my opinion is Live Right for Your > Type and more up to date as well. If you like to use supplements or > have a lot of health issues, the Encyclopedia will be of great > interest to you. Of the blood type books, I use the encyclopaedia all the time. If I had it to do over - I'd get the encyclopaedia, the diabetes book and the type O lists, nothing more. I found the ER4YT a waste of my money, and cook right even worse. Live right is okay but the encyclopaedia and diabetes book together cover most of what it says. What is has is longer explanations of why lectins etc are a no-no (but not as related to specific foods) and so if you get it, that would be the reason to get it IMO. Guest guest
Live Right 4 Your Type is the book I've used by far the most. Next is the Encyclopedia. Guest guest
I agree that I use those two books the most, almost to the point that I don't even look at the others at all. _____ From: Bumpas [mailto:lindabumpas@...] Sent: Thursday, November 18, 2004 7:59 PM Subject: Re: Re: Dr. D's books Live Right 4 Your Type is the book I've used by far the most. Guest guest
I'd recommend the diabetes book - it will give you different eating lists and information specific to that problem. > >O.K., which book to get first, and, can any of the info. be accessed >on the web instead of buying loads of books ? >I was going to get the ER4YT and the encyclopedia one sounded good, >but now you've mentioned this other one , and there's one on >the list about diabetes - which I am at risk from [ seeing the doc >tomorrow re. insulin resistance possibility] - so what do you >suggest please ? >I don't get much time for reading and do already have the >small 'Food, Beverage and Supplement Lists book for type O. >thankyou
