Q. Using Iodine to detox for Gadolinium and other toxic metals,

I recently completed a toxic metals test using my urine that reported or

measured Gadolinium at 0.313 ug/24 hours. The toxic metal Gadolinium is also

used as a contrast agent for MRI tests. I had several such tests done about 5

years ago.

Also measuring high levels were:

Thallium at .550 ( all ug/24 hrs.)

Rubidium at 3,010

Mercury at 2.30

Cesium at 9.56

Nickel at 4.04

I would sincerely appreciate any information about using either iosol iodine,

lugols solution iodine or whatever else to remove or " detox " these toxins -

especially the Gadolinium from my body? Or, are these toxic materials even

harmful at these levels?

I am 62, a medically disabled mild hemophiliac with a qualitative platelet

disorder and a titanium hip implant for the last 15 years, non smoker since

1994, non drinker since 2004.

After completing the above toxic metals test I tried lugols solution 1 or 2

drops a day but switched to iosol iodine because even 1 drop of lugols in 3 oz

of water caused me a fairly substantial headache the next day. For me the iosol

seems easier to assimilate.

Thank you for any information or references shared here.

I think you will have success on at least 50mg Lugols or Iodoral (iodine

& iodide). your dose is too low, and iosol is way too low. look at

Hi there,

there have been studies that showed less side effects on potassium iodide

(lugols has potassium iodide and iodine) try to mix the lugols with vitamin

c(ascorbic acid) (so the colour, which is from iodine, disappears. The iodine is

converted into iodide) before drinking it, same dosage, and see if the headache

is gone. It would be great if you come back here end tell if it helped or not.

You should be taking the companion nutrients (vit c, salt loading, magnesium and

selenium are the basics) while being on iodine to make the body detox

better.Especially selenium is important because the thyroid needs both and could

freak out if you just take iodine (or just selenium) while supplementing both is

better then doing nothing. I do not know about iodine being able to detox any of

the substances you posted but mercury, but that does not mean it does not help -

maybe it just hasn't been tested yet. Anyways, the companion nutrients are a

important part while using iodine.

If mixing with vit c does not help for your headache, try lower dosages like 1/2

or 1/4 drop (1 drop in 1 glass of water, then drink 1/2 or 1/4 of it.) and

slowly work your way up as your body adapts. To detox, most people need dosages

that are about 8-16drops of 5% lugols which is between 50-100 total iodine.

Hello ,

I sincerely appreciate your comments. However, being a newby to Iodine Thank you

for answering. I have much to learn and some questions here. Hope I make sense

to you.

1. How much vit C should I use for the mix you describe with lugols and what do

you mean by " salt loading? " What does the vitC do to the regular, or non

potassium iodine?

2. For the headaches I also am trying Iosol solution and this seems to work

fairly well. There are still some side affects, tiredness etc but not as

pronounced.

Q! What do you know about any differences between Iosol and Lugols solution as

far as potency, potassium and detox issues?

3. I am still starting out and using low dosages... on the lugols or iosol...1

or 2 drops per 2 oz of water... and drinking all of it. I have a hint that

taking six drops of lugols might cause me a lot of side affects...

About ... " the companion nutrients (vit c, salt loading, magnesium and selenium

are the basics) while being on iodine to make the body detox better.Especially

selenium is important because the thyroid needs both and could freak out... "

Again, what dosages? how much and how often? Selenium and magnesium are in most

regular multi-vit/min pills in moderate dosages... is this enough? Or do I need

specific and larger supplements daily?

Thank you again,

Will.

Hello Gracia,

Thank you for responding. I am most interested in this subject. Could you please

explain more about Iosol compared to Lugols solutions? Do you have any sites you

could refer me to? Does Iosol's water solubility make the potency different per

dose?

My limited experience tests with lugols at 1 to 4 drops /2oz water (what 6mg to

24mg?) suggested to me that I would have a really severe headache (hangover

type) effect the next day trying to go up to 50mg.

So I bought some Iosol and the headslam effect was considerably less when using

1 or 2 drops /2oz water.

Are you saying this is because Iosol is less potent per drop? or is the water

solubility of iosol easier to assimulate than potassium iodine?

I hope to be able to increase the dosage of either one but do not want to cause

myself problems by increasing the dosage too fast.

However, about detoxification: wouldn't 1 or 2 drops of either solution per day

still do more and be better than none?

Thank you again,

Will.

Hi ,

you're welcome. if you mix vit c directly with lugols, you will change iodine

into iodide. The potassium iodide part remains unchanged. If this is beneficial

or not, well there is no real consensus here, but the Drs from the Iodine

Project tell their patients to mix everything, so they must think that lugols

will do its job, no matter if its iodine or iodide. Just use as much Vit C as

necessary to make the colour go away(Don't forget to mix while adding, you will

not need much Vit C).

If that does not help, do the salt loading (see urls below). Normally people do

not detox at low iodine dosages such as 1-2 drops of lugols, but it has been

happening, I was having detox symptoms at dosages as low as 1,5mg potassium

iodide/day. So there might be the chance that your symptoms are bromide related

- try the salt loading to see if your symptoms improve.

Is this the Iosol you are referring to?

http://www.lef.org/Vitamins-Supplements/Item16422/Iosol.html

If so, it has only 153mcg iodine. Lugols is much more potent because of the

dosage and because it has iodine and potassium iodide. I would forget about

Iosol unless you want to supplement this small amount of iodine, which noone in

this forum would tell you to do, I guess. For real detoxing you will have to

work your way up to dosages you can not archive with Iosol. Besides, all studies

made by Dr.Abraham were using the Lugols formula, in pill form.

Like I said, if you have problems with 1 drop already, work your way up slowly,

in your case starting with 1/2 to 1/4 drop of lugols, if necessary. When I

started, I upped my dosage in small steps once the detox symptoms were gone.

look at

http://www.breastcancerchoices.org/iprotocol.html

for the dosages of vit c, magnesium, etc and at

http://www.breastcancerchoices.org/bromidedetoxsymptomsandstrategies.html for

bromide detoxing strategies,

for salt loading, this url will help:
