Guest guest
Has anyone filed and received long term medical disability in connection with Reiter's Syndrome? I really can't function anymore at work. Senior management is begining to notice. I'm worried I may get fired due to performance. I'm in pain all day and find it difficult to speak / let alone sell. Can someone walk me through the process. How much does one receive while on medical disability? Thanks,
Guest guest
, If you have company ins. start there. SSD you have to be out of work for 6 months to apply and make sure you have every doctor form you can get your hands on. They do not care if you go broke and cant afford your meds or become homeless or lose your car. Rambling sorry. I'm fighting with my ins company now for short term disability until I can either go back to work or file for long term disability. I call them daily to ask what the problem is & even had one person tell me he didn't believe there was a disease called AS & couldn't even pronounce the words spondyloarthropies or psoriatic arthritis & have since learned that most of the medical community don't even know our diseases exist. Good luck & hope you feel better soon. Marty ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
hey joey, hope you get through this somehow. i just had a really bad morning today. the inflammation in my right ankle and the accompanying pain was at its worst this morning when i woke up..... i dont ever remember it feeling as bad as it did today, and then i went to work too. my doctor in bangkok recommended i stop taking feldene and only go with the sulfasalazine..... but i started back on feldene again. not happy with these meds right now, so going to start looking (again) at some traditional chinese medicines..... and see how that goes. sorry, cant help you with your question, but i do understand how you are probably feeling. take care and best wishes. james Reiter's and Disability Has anyone filed and received long term medical disability in connection with Reiter's Syndrome? Guest guest
I have medical disability due th Reiter's. The amount you recieve depends on your work history. Expect to be turned down on first application. Be sure to hire lawyer and refile. I got mine on second go round. Guest guest
Dear , I totally understand the confusion and worry that comes with this disease. I haven't worked in six months and all I know how to do is work on my feet. I don't have the work history to even get a job doing something clerical, which is what my doctor has said for me to get. I am going to see about starting the process of trying to get approved for disability. I live in Texas and being a single parent me working is something I really need. I have tried to get a job over the last six months and have yet to have anyone who is willing to hirer this broke down cowgirl. LOL. I have been told that you can start the process online. So today I am going to see if that is true. I have put off doing this because of my pride, mainly because I hate to admit there are alot of things that I cannot seem to do any more. Just cooking supper for my two kids and boyfriend seems to be a challenge on most days. As I start the process I will let you know what I find out along the way. Guest guest
Barbara, I'm in the same boat with you. Haven't worked in 3 months & doesn't appear I'm going to be able to go back to my regular job. If this treatment regime I'm on doesn't work I guess I'll be filing also. Thanks for keeping us posted. Guest guest
Barb / others: Thanks. I'm not sure I can survive 1 year w/o income. Not sure I can put my kids through that process. I'll review archives and do more research. I'm 43 and will try to fight this as long as I can. However, I feel others at work are beging to wonder what's wrong w/ me. Thanks again. --------------------------------- Looking for earth-friendly autos? Browse Top Cars by " Green Rating " at Autos' Green Center. Guest guest
Has anyone filed and received long term medical disability in connection with Reiter's Syndrome? Hi , Yes I recieved benefits the first time after the waiting period. I took a medical leave of absence from work which gave me 6 weeks of full pay because I could no longer make it through a day of work. But what made the decision is my fatigue was so bad, I fell asleep driving home. I was also diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I knew I had the disease and was on meds for 8 months prior to this,I shared this with my employer and they company tried very hard to help me but it wasn't enough to help me work. So, I was lucky to have this work disability money come in, and keep my medical benefits for my family. My hubby secured a full time position (with a cut in pay) in the meantime and our medical benefits were immediate. So, it has been rough and we have had to make major sacrifices but having me home, and not trying to work sick then coming home and sleeping the minute I got home is so much better for all of us. I can tell you I did my homework. I read a lot on the web about applying for SSD, there are many good sites including about.com which can walk you through it. I had 4 pages of my medical history from the last 10 years, all Drs, addresses and phone numbers. Even if I was not seeing them now. I had copies of my medical diagnosis lab tests from the RH Dr and my eye DR. Listed all meds, allergies, when I left work and why, including the letter from work with my medical leave of absence. The last page was a short dated diary of what happened and when. Who I saw, and what the outcome was at that time. I opted to go into the office of SS and file. The woman was very helpful, asked all the questions and filled out the forms giving me a copy. Before I had a chance to fill out the personal forms and problems I was approved. Evidently the Dr reports and medications were enough. I am recieving benefits for myself and my student daughter until she graduates in June. Her's isn't much, but it helps. Since I was not the breadwinner my whole life and only worked full time for 11 years and part time for 7, I didn't accumulate a large amt paid into SS and I am recieving about 2/3 of my take home pay. Not to mention the 4 months with no pay and getting behind. Look into your work disability first like Marty said, and then move forward with SSD. I got my benefits just after 6 months from when I left my job, and one back pay check. Good luck, Kay
