Guest guest Posted July 30, 2004 Report Posted July 30, 2004 Check out ' new article. New product, Tranquility? coming out with GABA, chamomile, etc. will also be helpful for sleep issues. My doctor gave me high doses of GABA for a month, kind of a shock therapy, but then 5-HTP. He said I might need GABA from time to time. Three interesting products described in his article, no release date though. Found my book last night. Some of the Pamela Peeke info may be of interest. Our after forty fat just looks more like male fat, more intraabdominal. She says the stress hormones were designed for short term physical stress. The Fight or Flight response has turned into more of a Stew and Chew response. In stress overeaters more cortisol than adrenaline produced. We don't get the adrenaline rush to energize us and make us want to exercise, but we get the cortisol message meant to make us eat to replenish fuel burned during fight or flight. She studied Cushings patients to understand what Cortisol was doing. What we have today is chronic stress rather than acute stress. We just don't have the biochemistry to handle that. Exercise is the prescription, non-negotiable in her terms. > Thanks Cheryl, > > I looked online and my local library has the Fight Fat After Forty book. I'm assuming since it was specifically noted for A's, > it's not so important for O's. I need to look at the Fight Fat After > Forty book (Pamela Peeke). It has the discussion about the cortisol > cycle and timing of starches. She also recommends no starch after 5 > pm and 65% of calories before 5 pm mainly to avoid excess fat > storage. Excellent discussion of exercise and people with cortisol > vs. adrenaline issues. The book is intended for women, so don't know > how well it would apply to men.
