Guest guest
, I exercise every day, it is basically a regime put together by the Arthritis Society and a physiotherapist. People with AS usually have to exercise under the guidance of a physio because of the difficulties caused by the fusing and with me the deterioration in my shoulder socket joint. On the odd day I don't exercise, I get extreme pain in some of my vertebrae, left hip and sacroiliac joint by about noon. I find my exercise regime does not help that much with the fibromyalgia pain. On the other hand, too much exercise can increase my fibromyalgia pain 10 fold, I don't know why this is, but other people have told me they experience the same thing - we have to find the golden mean. I have to guard against getting too enthusiastic. Lastly I find that if I do not exercise I lose muscle strength and strechability at a much faster rate than normal people. I believe this is the main benefit of exercise for people with AS - it keeps our muscles from deteriorating. It's just that we have to be careful and not overdo it because of the fibromyalgia problem. I love to travel too, so my physiotherapist developed a set of isometric exercises that need no gym equipment whatsoever. All I need is a floor.
