Guest guest
I am just curious...what is the experience from members on the pneumonia shot? I was wondering if I should encourage Adrienne to get that, this year, while she is still covered on my insurance...or... are the 'side affects' worse than not getting the shot? Thanks. Guest guest
Since I have asthma, I got the pneumonia vaccine several years ago. I didn't have any reaction to it other than, I presume, I'm immune from viral pneumonia. Unfortunately, bacterial pneumonia is much more common. I'd still have to deal with that and bronchitis if I get a lung infection but antibiotics will help with that. They give the pneumonia vaccine to toddlers now. My 3-yr old will get it before she goes to school.
Guest guest
I got another immunization while getting the pneumonia shot and had a mild few day reaction. I would suggest that thought it's easier to get the shots at the same time as the flu shot that she get it separately. The pneumonia shot is only for a bacterial pneumonia so I am told. Though origianaly we were told that it is a lifetime shot now it is suggested that it be renewed every 5-10 years. Since I have fewer lobes of lung than most of us due to cancer, I am renewing the pneumonia shot every 5 years. Hope this helps.
