Guest guest
Hi , Some years back Indian universities were running a project " Let's talk sex " . I am sure that many of us did not hear about it because in spite of spending lots of funds, not much was done. That time I gave one hour presentation on matters relating to sex, safe sex, use of condoms etc; to non medical NCC cadets from high schools and colleges. The students were nervous, edgy, feeling uncomfortable to listen, specially the girls. And so were their teachers and officers. I found from school students that they knew what sex was. They knew condoms. I passed them few to open and see. But they did not know the correct use. They did not know various methods of contraception. And their understanding about STDs was shockingly poor. But do the schools and colleges care to improve the awareness on the subject? Even though sex is a physiological need, all worldly creatures enjoy it, then why do we shy from talking about it? How are we going to improve the scenerio without talking about it? We keep saying culture of our society is such. Are not brothels and prostitution existing in same society? Is not rape attempted in same society? Do you know that lay people have a firmly grounded strong notion that if they contact STD, they should have sex without condom and pass it to others and they will be free from it? We give excuses in plenty in the name of culture and social norms.
