Some of the factors which can be considered before using emergency contraceptives:

TARGET POPULATION

Women who had unprotected or inadequately protected sexual intercourse within the previous 120 hours who do not desire pregnancy

INTERVENTIONS AND PRACTICES CONSIDERED

Emergency oral contraception including levonorgestrel-only (preference) and combination estrogen-progestin regimen. Antiemetic agent to be taken 1 hour before the first dose of combined estrogen-progestin regimen Counseling patients regarding effective contraceptive methods at the time emergency contraception is prescribed Offering patients an advance prescription for emergency contraception during a routine gynecologic visit Evaluating patients for pregnancy if menses are delayed by a week or more after expected time or if lower abdominal pain or persistent irregular bleeding develops.

Thanks Chetna for your agreement.Our myopic considerations in the past have resulted in abysmal sex educataion to adolescents, misuse of high potency estrogen-progestron preparations, failure of condom promotion, misuse of MTP, risky abortions by quacks at higher price, prospering of prenatal sex determination which has disbalanced the male:female ratio in many States of India. Both partners are equally responsible for sexual misadventure but due to God's physiological creation, only one suffers the humiliation.
