scoliosis pain

Hi, Joe --

You need to find some way to get to a specialist in adult spinal

surgery. I am very sorry to hear that your GP did not refer you. The

problems of adults with untreated scoliosis can be very complex. You can

get much better help from a specialist. I wish we could answer your

questions, but we are not doctors and we do not know you personally.

Every one of us has a unique case.

If you already had scoliosis at age 5, you have a special situation that

is not too common. Most of us were diagnosed in our pre-teen or teen

years. Scoliosis starting in early childhood is not the most typical

kind.

With all this pain, you really need to find out what is going on from a

qualified spinal specialist. I hope you can also get a referral for

skilled pain management. Many of us have had terrible pain, but none of

us should have to put up with that kind of agony.

It can be very hard to find the best help, I know. It's especially hard

when you have to work and you are in all this pain. You probably don't

feel like shopping around for new doctors or putting yourself through

more tests or x-rays. Try to do what you can -- a little each day.

If you tell us your general location -- the state and the nearest big

city -- some of our members may have suggestions for doctors who could

help you.

Best.

Joe,

I'm having a little trouble following your post. You're on 60mg of what? What

type of doctor are you seeing for this - just a gp, or perhaps an orthopedic

surgeon?

Have you had fusion surgery for your scoliosis, and now you're experiencing new

pain? Or have you never had a spinal fusion? If you haven't had surgery, I

think that a general scoliosis group might be a better place for you to find

help. This group is for people who have had previous surgeries (typically many

years ago) and are now experiencing flatback as a result of those surgeries. We

can offer you some advice, but you'd probably be better served by a general

scoliosis group if you haven't had an initial fusion surgery.

Please tell us a little more about your background, and we'll be able to help

you better.
