Guest guest
Kathi, I suggest you button-down tops and a nice short hair cut before the surgery. Good luck. Dear Kathi in NJ, Just read your post about clothing after surgery. Don't know the effect on the whole spine for L5-S1 surgery, my surgery was L1 to S1. People from the old Scoliosis digest suggested wearing button- down tops, no tops that you had to lift your arms up over your head to put on or take off. It was great advise. I bought a zippered-all- the-way bathrobe, that I did not have to step in and out of, and some cozy men's flannel shirts to wear around the house and stay warm in. I also found I had to wear short night gowns to bed, I got tangled up in everything else.
Guest guest
Please excuse my dumb question, but what exactly is the reason for the short hair - is it too hard to manage when you can't move well, or does it bother you hanging down your back, or both (or something else)? Thanks mary b Re: Clothing Restrictions? Kathi - I totally agree with what has been suggested. I had heard that you should get a haircut before the surgery but I was so busy, I didn't get around to it (didn't really need it at the time so it wasn't a priority). Boy, did I regret it. I finally got my hair cut six weeks after surgery and I was miserable the last 3 weeks. Also, regarding the clothing, I also went with loose-fitting outfits (my favorite was a terrycloth long pants and pullover top - so comfortable, soft and easy to wear without any rubbing anywhere). As for nightwear, definitely short gowns and the " slicker " the better (easier to turn in bed). Good luck!! Kathleen > > My upcoming surgeries in November are anterior and > > posterior at L5-S1. Guest guest
Hola I did wonder the same thing as I had very long hair when I had my surgery. Nutty Re: Clothing Restrictions? Guest guest
LMAO that made m chuckle. I doubt it is the only thing on you that is the best As I said before my hair was very long when I had my surgery and it was never suggested to me that I should have it cut. Each to their own I think Nutty Re: Clothing Restrictions? I too have wondered about the short hair or just shave your head comments I have read both here and on another board. When I had my surgery MANY years ago as a teen I was told the same thing and my Mom demanded I cut my hair into a bubble. It took forever to grow out. Even having to spend almost 6 months in bed didn't convince me it was a good idea. It looked terrible for a couple of years. So now that I'm " old " and maybe looking at another one of these surgeries one of these days, why should I destroy the one part of me that doesn't look " terrible " ?
