Who is your doctor? There are a couple who don't stitch it into place,

though most do.

Tamara,

My port is now about three inches up and lateral to the incision. As

you lose weight the skin chanes how it lays over the muscle and fat.

It actually hangs further down. It happens to almost all of us.

My doctor is Emma in Portland and I think it is stiched in

place. And regarding the comment about the cause being weight-

loss... well my surgery was in September so I haven't lost THAT much

weight yet. Plus it was a sudden move as far as I can tell, not

gradual.

If you're worried, then call your doc! Ports commonly seem to move as

the fat layer over it changes, both with weight loss and activity.

For example, the port may seem 3 inches below the port incision when

you're standing up, but immediately under it when you're laying down.

The port has not moved, but the skin, muscle, and fat has.

The port sutures often come out, since they are put into the very

thin and fragile muscle covering the fascia, not into the muscle

itself. Doesn't matter at all, since many surgeons do not even suture

the port down at all. Pros and cons to either way.

As long as the port is accessible, it does not matter a bit. Sandy RN
