You know, I skip the majority of the lettuce in my salad. Mitch usually

picks up a Cobb salad from work for lunch and he will give me everything

else out of the salad, and maybe add a little more tomato and that is more

than enough for me. I get plenty of protein from the egg and the turkey and

the few bacon bits that are in it and it gives me that full feeling.

But there are dozens of great protein sources, and a zillion ways to

fix them, combine them, etc. Get creative....

Baby leaf spinach is very nutritious (instead of iceberg). There are many ways

to have a highly nutritious salad (and not useless). Raw spinach leaves, boiled

eggs, shredded carrots, tomatoes and brocollli - all raw (and much healthier

than cooked veggies) provides fiber and lots of vitamins.

Re: Ready for solid food.....

I think this is the food I missed the most when I was restricted. I

had a salad and I thought it was the best thing I had eaten in my

life. I am a big veggie person. I cut them up really really tiny

now of course. But the best thing is eating grape tomatoes. They

are small, easy to chew, and a little sweet. I grew up growing my

own tomatoes, and there is nothing like a fresh picked ripe tomato

as opposed to a store bought hot house one.

I know this comic named Pinette, his humor is geared towards

the heavyset audience. The first time I saw him he weighed about

375 lbs. about 3 years ago. I saw him at Caroline's in NY this past

summer, and he had lost about 70, didn't get into specifics how. He

mentioned the doctor told him to eat a lot of salad as a meal. He

said salad is not a meal, salad is a promisary note that food will

soon be on it's way!!! LOL He is extremely funny if anyone ever

gets a chance to look into him.

Sandy, I also wanted to ponder, and I will look this up myself: I

can see where iceberg lettuce has no nutrition, but I've always been

under the assumption that the darker the leaf of the lettuce, the

healther it is. There is more iron in it. It also contributes to

the fiber count needed. Tomatoes are pretty healthy, they contain

vitiman C, which is needed to use iron in our systems. I also like

putting a few slices of fruit, like an apple, or a fresh orange. I

guess I am a sensory type of person and I need the variety. If I

couldn't eat veggies and salad anymore, I'd go postal. The only

thing I don't like is tuna and lettuce together. Something about

the combination turns me off, even before the band. I understand

the concept of eating the protein first, then the veggies, and salad

and so on, but it is really boring to eat the same thing all the

time. I use one meal every few days as veggies just to break it

up. Just my honest opinion.

Have a good day!!!
