Pat here:

Zoe, I think you are a believer in the value of the iodine skin patch test. (Correct me if I am wrong!)

Zoe here:

At this point, I am at a point of not knowing whether the iodine skin patch test is valid or not. I would certainly LIKE for there to be a correlation between the "test" and the actual levels of iodine in the body. If it works, it makes a very easy entry point for people to begin discovering about Iodine. If it works, it also provides a simple way for people to roughly monitor what is happening.

I do believe that the iodine loading tests (urine) are much more reliable. But they are a bit daunting for the person first beginning to question Iodine. So, if the patch tests did work --even if they weren't perfect-- that would be convenient.

At this point, the arguments I've heard against the patch test seem stronger than those in favor. However, I'm not ready to give up yet.

Abraham's groundbreaking research on Iodine started in 1997, in the face of a whole medical field that was convinced he was wrong. And, for me, the evidence at this point in clearly in his favor, even though few support him yet. Thus, I know that "research", even "peer-reviewed" research, can frequently be misleading.

So, these are my reasons for continuing to pursue the question of whether the patch tests have any validity.

Obviously, there are a lot of variables that would have to be controlled if you wanted a definitive study on this issue. However, most research begins with simple human observations. And this group offers an incredible resource with regards to human observations. It contains an amazing number of bright, thoughtful people who really want to understand. If we can use this resource effectively, we can all make a difference.

Respectfully,

Zoe

P.S. I wrote to Abraham today for his opinions on the validity of the patch test. We'll see if he responds....
