How are > you thinking they interact? > Hi, Dahlia, I'm feeling like crap for several reasons, all interrelated. I am waiting to make changes based on the results of the 11-vial hormone test from Diagnos-Techs and the iodine loading test. 1) adrenal fatigue - bad, cortisol number in Oct were 3, 3, 3, 1; feeling much better on HC and beginning to get out & about a bit. 2) thyroid meds not optimized - on 3 grains nature-throid; still feel " goiterish " from time to time 3) low progesterone - definitely contributing to #1, and probably contributing to #2 So, that being said here is my thinking on thyroid/iodine/progesterone: 1) Progesterone -low is obviously contributing to poor adrenal function, since progesterone is a precursor to cortisol. -when I recently supplemented with progesterone to stop bad menstrual bleeding, I felt " hyper " like on too much thyroid meds. so I don't want to increase thyroid meds if progesterone is low & needs to be increased. -adding progesterone to the mix will oppose estrogen that is presently unopposed and binding thyroid, so again that would affect how much thyroid meds I need. 2) Iodine -If deficient, can obviously affect thyroid function & possibly amount of meds needed, so again, I don't want to increase thyroid meds prior to adding iodine. -Have read on another forum that correcting iodine can increase progesterone, so don't want to supplement progesterone until iodine is added in. 3) Thyroid -Still having a goiter feeling from time to time, so I suspect iodine deficiency. -See points 1 & 2 re: progesterone and iodine. Dahlia, IMO, it's very important to add/remove one thing at a time, to ensure that I know what's causing benefits or problems. Also important that I've learned that some of these things affect the other. Previously I had no idea. Nor do drs, unfortunately. Warmly, Quote
Guest guest Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 -Hi , Please be aware that goiter comes with hypO or hypER thyroid... both ways. Only way to know for sure what you have is FT4 and FT3 and possibly a TSH. Adrenals should be maximized forst for OPTIMAL not normal ranges. Depending on your thyroid panel, you probably need to know where your antibodies are (if you have any) before taking iodine so you can monitor progress either way once you start. Otherwise how will you know if it is taking you for a ride or helping you? Progesterone is a key, but further down the line. Sounds like you have a lot of adjusting to do. Eat well and watch the supplements. Also have your iron checked as that can cause lots of issues as well. Also might want to make sure you're not insulin resistant which would be common in your scenario. B's are also vital as are magnesium, calcium, and selenium and D. Guest guest Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 IMO you would likely have an easier time if you took HC 5mg 4X a day (last dose at bedtime). I have taken 50mg Iodoral/day for almost a year. I also use 250mg progesterone every day, and am not able to lower progesterone. I have not been aole to lower my hormones on Iodoral. It's a long story, I can email you> privately if you want to hear itPlease do e-mail me with that info. Thanks! Hi ! The weird thing I am finding is that the h.c. was definitely making me tired--I had tried to lower my dose, and felt more energetic, like the hc was suppressing my adrenals. But then everything started going loopy and I decided to return to a strict, regular dosing of h.c. like this: 10, 7.5,5,2.5. After a few days, I was so sleepy I could barely stand it. NEver felt like that. Thought, well, h.c. is making me need more armour. I posted to Val and she suggested, oh I forget now, but to definitely cut back on Iodoral. I did that, and it helped, and also cut back on h.c. to this: 7.5, 5, 5, 2.5. My temps are improving and yesterday I felt like a real person. I take h.c., armour and iodoral all together twice a day, 8 hours apart. And I take my h.c. alone twice a day. So I'm basically swallowing something 4 times a day like this: a.m.: 7.5 h.c., 45 armour, 1 1/2 iodoral. 4 hours later, 5 mg h.c., +4 hrs repeat of 1 and +4 hours, 2.5 h.c. You posted once on how taking them together or separate--can't remember, think I'm having symptoms??!--made a big diff and I started to experiment, and found that is a big factor. When I took my armour first, I never had any energy. Of course, this is only a couple of days, and we all know nothing can be proven in a few days. But I plan on trying to keep steady on 20 mg of h.c. and 37.5 iodoral and 45 armour. What are you currently taking? Why do you prefer nature-throid rather than armour, just curious? Also what supplements are you taking? I just cut way back on the tons of minerals, inc. mag, I was taking. I like your posts, Dahlia Quote

Guest guest Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 Dahlia I am glad you are finding this regimen successful but it makes no sense to me! Iodoral is one of the most important things you can take. I would think you would want to continue on 50mg Iodoral and do cortef 5mg 4X a day. It is so important to take HC 4X a day, not 2X a day. You also probly need more Armour if you are so sleepy. Gracia Hi ! I plan on switching my hc dosing to 5mg 4x a day, as the other dosing isn't working for me. I do plan on upping the Armour when my temps steady out, which they don't seem to do. Decreasing the h.c. seems to give me more energy, so perhaps it is suppressing my own adrenals. And I want to wait another week or so to add the 4th Iodoral, as I think it makes me slightly hyperT. Does this make sense to you? Thanks for your always valuable input. Dahlia Quote
