Guest guest
I found it very interesting that the folks at TRA (Tacoma Radiology) where I got a fill done last week (and I now know what everyone meant by getting the fill " just right " , I have dropped 4lbs already). They said that they get a number of people who come and " unfill " just before Turkey Day? Maybe this is a maintenance mode mindset? I can't imagine wanting to loosen up so I can overeat on Thanksgiving. That kind of eating behavior is what got me here in the first place. I took my fill went home, and yesterday, ate with a small salad fork off of a appetizer plate, had a great time, was full after 1/2 cup and that was that. - Dr. Ponce de Leon 8/20/88 301/259/
Guest guest
I think that everyone is different, and are at different places in a journey of their own design. I didn't want to gorge myself on Thanksgiving, and had been plagued by cravings for a couple weeks. So, I went in on Tuesday and got a fill. I still enjoyed Thanksgiving, in fact I think I enjoyed it more! I didn't feel bloated and uncomfortable after eating. I tasted everything, and had a normal slice of pie. I had one serving spoon of each dish, and had a full plate of food. Everything went down fine. I didn't clean my plate, and didn't even miss it. I left some stuffing. This morning I went and worked out, and weighed myself. 205. Looked great. Even if I had to suffer from not eating a ton of food yesterday, it still would have been worth it. It's just one Thanksgiving. One day. EVERY day I look at my reflection and feel better about it. EVERY day I can walk down the stairs two at a time. And on and on and on. Guest guest
I can't imagine getting unfilled before a holiday! I remember my first holiday after banding, when i was MOST thankful for being able to keep my eating uncer control with the band. I felt strength from not having the food control me, and joy that I would not be seeing a higher scale number after the holiday. To me, this is a critical art of banding - regaining normalcy and learning to enjoy holidays without wolfing down tons of food. Seems to me that those wanting to eat around the band have not gotten their heads in the right spot. This also points out to me the reason to use a band surgeon or trained band fill person for fills - not just a technician somewhere, when at all possible. A trained fill person or surgeon would use the opportunity to talk about all this when someone came in and requested an unfill for a holiday. Self-directing fills is usually NOT a good idea. " Surviving " thanksgiving, to me, is eating a normal portion, enjoying every ounce, NOT having to take a 3-hr nap afterward, and feeling totally happy with myself and the meal! Guest guest
You know its funny, but i am in the research and insurance attempted approval stage of banding. I have to admit, thinking that every time i put food on my plate. My family all noticed, i know they did and not one mentioned it. I am trying to work with about 2 tablespoons of each food on the plate. Somehow i not only lived through it, but i also was the only one not moaning and groaning ... I have learned alot from everyone posting here, and its amazing to me, but i see myself in alot that is written here. Thank you all for sharing and i hope to soon be able to give a date for " my " banding. pre-band (post pre snippped!)
