Guest guest
Mel, Yes, keeping a too-tight fill can be VERY dangerous. It can cause enough trouble that the band must even be removed sometimes. It can also cause enougn trouble that the entire fill must be removed for several months for the stomach to heal and recover, and many regain a good bit of weight uring this time. If you get the fill reduced quickly, you can usually avoid all of this. The doc has no right to be frustrated with YOU - HE is the one giving the fills that are not right!! Even if he IS frustrated, you still must do what is right to take good care of yourself and your band. That is the most impt. thing here. With a good fill, you should always be able to drink fluids freely, and to eat small but decent meals. This means, for instance for dinner, maybe a 3-4 oz piece of moist chicken and 1/4-1/2 cup veggies. If you can't eat meals like this, you cannot get in the minimum nutrition to do well. You might temporarily lose some weight, but it will come right back with better nutrition, becuae the body is starving. /that is not teh point of the band. But, even more importantly, the pressure on the stomach is too great and you;re just begging for trouble. Too tight fills need to be relieved within a few days - a week at the most - if you want to avoid trouble. I know this is not what you wanted to hear - but it's true. Please don't wait. Are you able to get in at least two quarts of fluid a day? As you lose it'll gradually loosen up, but maybe not quickly enough. You also want to be able to get enough nutrition in to stay healthy and not lose too fast. Suggestion to all, and don't know if you did this or not...but I did once.... NEVER leave the area where you got your fill until AT LEAST the next day. Even if you had it under fluoro. That cost me big time pain and bucks. dan -- Dan Lester, Boise, ID honu@... www.mylapband.tk Dr. Ortiz, Tijuana, 4/28/03 323/209/199 Age 63 The road goes on forever.....
