Two men lost 28 pounds each but one woman lost 20. I know it's mostly water

weight, but still, that's a whole bunch of water!

p.s. A guy was voted off

diet and they don't lose the same amount of weight every week) I liked the show

last season and hope to watch it again. Was it a girl or guy that got booted?

First you have to weigh around 400 pounds. Then you get weighed the

morning after the massive catered feast they gave the contestants the

night before the weigh-in. That way you step on the scale still

bloated with 8-12 pounds of water, glycogen, and the actual weight of

all the food you ate. Then you spend a week eating squeaky clean,

taking in a bare minimum number of calories, and working your ass

completely off for hours a day. Working out is your new full-time job.

You sweat buckets and buckets, get rid of the banquet bloat, drop

about another 15 pounds of mostly water and whammo, you've lost 28

pounds.

I'll admit that it is amazing to behold, but the initial huge drops

are mainly water fluctuations. Certainly they all lost fat too, but

with guys that big, water can fluctuate A LOT.

I was amazed that one of the women dropped 20 pounds. She wasn't

nearly as big. If you've ever watched fighters or wrestlers cut weight

though, it's certainly possible for the human body to let go of 10-20

pounds of water in A DAY. Even a healthy race car driver at an ideal

weight drops 6-12 pounds during a three or four hour race. Even I've

gotten crushed and dehydrated at rock concerts and come home 7 pounds

lighter. :-)

Those big numbers are certainly possible when the circumstances are

extreme. If you'll recall last year on The Biggest Loser, there was

major drama on the second week because many of them gained some of

that water weight back during week 2. They were working just as hard,

eating just as little, but they gained and everybody was freaking out.

The scale creates such drama, and they have a whomper of a scale! I

loved whoever it was that saw it for the first time and goes, " You

could see that thing from Mars! "

Was it just me, or did they look the same after all that weight lost? I

realize they are obese, but you would think they would look smaller!!

Watching that show makes you never want to stop doing BFL!!

I thought the same thing! I missed the first 30 minutes too. How long

were they dieting before the weigh-in? Was that one-week's time and 20

some pounds lost?

I really like the show too and will be watching but I agree with

Stasia on the last meal. One woman actually licked the chocolate

fountain..come on!!! It was so degrading. I do like how they are

having men vs. women this year.

I'm watching it as well but I still think it's unfair...Men do have a faster metabolism and are going to lose more weight, there for more of a % but I guess only time will tell... Anyone your rooting for??

.. I am watching biggest loser and at first I thought it was not going to be fair. BUT the first show men lost and had to eliminate one. Second the girls lost the weigh in BUT won the challenge. It will be interesting. They are doing % lost not pounds.

I've found this link on their website. Haven't had a chance to look at it -- but wanted to share it with you. It is supposed to update you on last year's contestants:

http://www.nbc.com/The_Biggest_Loser/contestants/wherearetheynow/ryan.shtml

These people make some pretty big sacrifices to be on the show. If it were me, I would be making sure that those sacrifices were worth it -- by continuing to follow the programs set up for them.

I've got a dinner party to go to tonight also. A group of pastors -- we get together after Christmas for our annual "Christmas" get-together. We are going to a local steakhouse. My hubby & I plan on sharing a meal. One of the people that will be at the dinner will be my dietitian. Won't be tempted to overeat at this one! Biggest Loser

I get the newsletter from the Biggest Loser Club and what stood out to me this time was

Compete with others.Challenge friends and family to an "exercise-off." Whoever works out the most in a week or a month wins a massage, facial, or manicure

What a good idea!

ALSO- Did you see the Biggest Loser last night? Jillian was trying to get to stay on the treadmill for ONE MINUTE! ONE MINUTE!

All this time they make it look like these people are working out for hours and hours at the very beginning of their journey. And you and I both know that this is unthinkable and ALMOST undoable for those of us who weigh as much as some of them do.

But when she said ONE MINUTE! I felt sosoooooooososoosososososo good. First of all I can do the treadmill for 1 minute. Second....it was so real then. They don't push them over the edge from the very start...they start them at their pace.

Also, watching Tammi from the other team and the 16 year old who weighs what I do in the gym and hiking up that mountain. They were real! The mom kept having to stop and catch her breath and the daughter stopped and got water every '5' seconds to avoid the pain of the workout. I could definitely see myself in those actions.

Bless their hearts...I know exactly how they feel.

I thoroughly enjoyed the show last night. It gave me HOPE that I CAN DO THIS!

hi angela!

i havent done the boot camp workout on this dvd yet... but have done

the warmup, low intensity cardio, strength & sculpt and cooldown

segments. i posted a review (it is in this group's message

archives) with both positive and negative comments. i will repeat

some of what i wrote for you:

- i dont know about the warmup... it didnt do much for me... id

prefer something a bit more aerobic.

- i did think that the cardio was good, but none of the exercisers

(the contestants) followed the beat of the almost non-existant music

and none of them were in sync. that might not bother other people...

i guess im just used to seeing that in workout videos.

- bob doesnt explain how to kick and punch, so true beginners need to

be careful with these during the cardio segment.

- i thought that the strength segment was a good little workout in a

short time. however they used the same weights for every exercise

while i used 3 sets of dumbells for various body parts.

- i was expecting a 20 minute cooldown/stretch segment as per the

back of the dvd case... however, it ended up being only 10 mins long!

so that was disappointing. bob did standing stretches only and

nothing for the quads.

- as for bob, i like him well enough but i really dont think he is

meant to be a video instructor. there were quite a few

things about bob and this production that could have been improved

for video. however, he is a pleasant guy, in fabulous shape and a

good motivator... it is just that his forte seems to be in personal

training and he seems to be great at that.

- the dvds menuing system is good, allowing you to select what

workout(s) you want to do and has an option to turn bob off.

:*carolyn.
