Guest guest
Turned out my gall bladder was completely choked with stones and non-functioning and I ended up with surgery a week ago. My surgeon, who has a less than 1% rate of having to open a patient up after beginning laproscopic said my situation was very unusual and she came within a hair's breadth of having to open me up. I had to stay overnight in the hospital. Gall bladder was enlarged distended and inflamed, and I had no cystic duct where she could clamp. She was afraid to dig too far looking because of chance damage to the common duct. But she found a way to crush some of the stones impacted in where my cystic duct should have been. She also got a stone with a " basket " out of my common duct near my pancreas. She said there was lots of sludge and bits and possibly more stones in the common duct. Due to my liver chemistry being off (showed in my pre-op testing) she did a liver biopsy as well during surgery. I found out yesterday that my biopsy shows fibrosis of the liver - damage possibly due to bile all backed up in my liver for so long (I am the one who had gall bladder attacks for 14 years before finding out I was having GB probs - I thought they were muscle spasms). I go now to a GI doc for more info on just how bad off my liver is. I really need to get my bile going and get the rest of this stuff out. Any recomendations on how to get it flowing good? In a gentle way?
Guest guest
My mother ended up the same way you did. I'm surprised they didn't tell you to take it easy on your system for 6 weeks. You should be on a low fat diet for 6 weeks to allow your liver and pancreas to become " aware " that your gall bladder is gone. They need to take up the slack for your gall bladder. You may not want to get things moving quite the way you are thinking. The liver performs many, many functions. Stay low fat for 6 weeks and then look into getting things moving. You don't want to produce more bile. Check with your doctor to make sure this is the procedure she wants you to follow. When surgery is performed, all bets are off. Those guys are the ones who should be telling what you should do. Call them. Guest guest
Milk thistle is very good for the liver, also, try some dissolving herbs: www.sensiblehealth.com/#Topic 1) CHINESE GENTIAN & BUPLEURUM ( " CHINESE BITTERS " ) -- Used for a month before a cleansing to decongest the liver and to increase the energy flow through it. 2) COPTIS-- To stimulate bile flow. Good if the gb has been taken out. 3) GOLD COIN GRASS--To " soften and crush " the stones prior to a cleansing. Also used with CORN SILK for kidney stone disolution. 4) CURCUMA--- Used with GCG to increase the energy flow through the liver and gb. pilgrimhen wrote: >Turned out my gall bladder was completely choked with stones and >non-functioning and I ended up with surgery a week ago. Guest guest
The only reason I'm telling you to be very careful is because I followed a good friend's holistic advice and added 1/4 cup of home-ground flax seed every morning to my diet when my gall bladder problems first started getting bad. I ended up with some very intense mid/upper abdominal pain starting after about 4 months. It was sporadic and came on me about every 3 to 6 weeks, and none of the many doctors I went to could figure out what it was. I started passing straight blood after about 6 months when the pain came on. They did every test possible except for small bowel tests. My pancreatic lipase did a slow climb over the norm during this time. It turned out I was allergic to the flax seed. I cannot even take flax oil. My eyes get bloodshot and my stools go weird. I think a careful balance between medical and holistic approaches is a must. After I passed all my sludge in Jan 2005, I continued to be in intense pain until I figured out that my diet changed coincided with my gall bladder problems. I discontinued ground flax at the end of Feb 2005 and improved drastically in 6 weeks. My gall bladder problems are coming back after 9 months of respite, and I am seriously thinking about yanking it. I'm tired of dealing with the discomfort, horrible-smelling flatulence, and interference in every-day life. My mother's gall bladder was " rotted " according to the surgeon, and I no longer want to chance the same thing happening to me. After the first test, an ERCP, the sphincter to the common bile duct was slammed shut and they cut it open. They really didn't want to remove a 75yo woman's gall bladder. But she went bad again -- within days -- and they had to take it. Careful balance is key. Sometimes even the best of intentions can cause problems.
