,

remember, you are not really restricted by your band yet. i hope you

are still following the doctor's dietary restrictions but as far as

your band helping you - no, its not. you are still in the healing

phase and most people still get hungry during this time. its a

process, not overnight. hang in there. you'll be amazed how soon it

will be time for a fill. even then, for most of us it takes a while

to get to a good fill level, but you will probably be able to tell a

real diference in one or two fills. (took me 5 to get to my sweet

spot and i'm down 70 lbs in 8 months time)

You should be in the soft food stage I'm guessing? I ate 1/2 cup of

mashed potatoes, couple of spoonfuls of pureed carrots, couple of

spoonfuls of pureed peas. It's really filling and stays with you a

while. Try cottage cheese..I put a spoonful of orange marmalade on

top. It's kind of hard in this stage, because you're eating soft

foods that don't stay in the pouch too long. It will get better

though when you can eat solids.

Hunger returns at different times for different people. the band will

only help lessen your hunger when you have a good fill, and you are

not there yet.

If you're really eating only 1/4 of what you were before, you're just

fine. Learn as much about nutrition as you can, so you can choose

lower-calorie and higher-protein and better-nutrition foods.

You're on full liquids, which means anytthing thin enough and smooth

enough to ge through a straw. Experiement with chunky soups - throw

them in the blender and smooth them so there are NO bits of

anytghing. they need to be runny enough to get through a straw, but

you do not necessarily need to use one.

Same with chili, stews, cooked veggies and fruits - blend them well,

and then thin them if needed. non-fat puddings, pureed meats, stewed

tomatoes if you like them, runny mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, etc.

Another " trick " to start uysing - when you feel hungry, slowly drink

a big glass of ice water. This numbs your stomach, and helps make you

feel full. Also be sure you're getting in the 8-10 glasses of fluids

you need every day - this will lessen your hunger and slo help your

kidneys get rid of the fat you're breaking down. VERY impt.!

Be sure to sip all things slowly, and just a couple ounces at a time,

over 10-15 minutes. you're still healing and you want the band and

sutures to heal very securely in the right place.

Sounds like you'r doing great! You're not eating too much at all.

When you have a good fill later, 1/2 - 1 cup of solid foods 3x a

day , with maybe 1-2 small snacks, will be about right, but for now,

more is just fine. Sandy R

I had the same thing happen... right after surgery I didn't feel hunger or

fullness so I didn't really care much about food or the fact I was on a liquid

diet since I was more focused on recovery. Then you start to feel better and

return to normal activities and start to feel hunger again! The reason is

simple: the liquid diet. Solid food, and even soft food or the mushies phase of

the post-op diet fills you more than all those clear liquids. During this

period, protein shakes and soup seemed to fill me up the best. You just have to

eat more often since fluid goes through you so quickly. Good luck!
