Guest guest
I'm painting Lugol's on my nose periodically to clear up residue/swelling from repeat bouts of cellulitis. In the past 2 years or so, I've had cellulitis on the left side of my nose 6 times. Several times I went to regular doctors & they prescribed systemic antibiotics (yuk), occasionally topical anti- biotics. I was able to get a couple of the bouts under control without going to the doctor by using warm soaks with Epson salts. One flared up so quickly & strongly it started to spread up to my eye & I went to the emergency clinic. My nose has never looked quite right since this started. It tends to be red on the tip, with increased abnormal reddening in the heat, cold or minor sun exposures. It also had residual mild swelling that would never quite go away, making the skin sort of shiny. My MIL noticed it. When I asked my old GP about it, he blew me off with " you're fine " . The inner cartilage/structure inside my nose is more swollen on the left than the right. Whether it's from scarring or residual " stuff " that never quite clears up, I don't know. During my last bout a couple of months ago, I decided to paint it with Lugol's & see what happens. It stung. I also applied a bit of anti-bacterial cream that I had left from last time. I painted the Lugol's for 3 days in a row. On the last day, it stung like h*ll! I stopped after that. As it healed, a couple of layers of skin peeled off. I never had that happen before. I suspect that it was from the Lugol's irritating the inflamed skin. But this time when it healed, it had much less residual swelling. The structure of my nose/nostrils is much more normal & firm. It used to be sort of squishy. You can see the dimples above my nostrils now. They were filled in before. My NP noticed it right away on my last visit, before I told her I'd had a bout & used the iodine. My MIL noticed my nose looked better too. I still get the redness (but it's less) & have the interior residual swelling. I'm painting it every couple of days to see what happens. I'm not painting every day, so I can avoid overly irritating it. I'm thinking of painting the inside too, but I don't know if that will be too strong. I picked up a netti pot & thought I might do a nasal rinse with a bit of iodine instead. Haven't tried it yet though. My NP also suggested using a paste of powdered goldenseal & witch hazel as an anti-bacterial & for its drawing effects. I've done that a couple of times. I think that's helping too. I'll probably swap off between the two to keep down irritation from repeated painting. I'm pretty sure the failure in the last couple of years to permanently kick this cellulitis is due to my impaired immune function from my thyroid/adrenal issues. Hopefully my immune system will get back on track now that I'm on thyroid meds/adrenal support. currently sporting a bright orange nose __________ >I wonder if anyone here has used it for skin issues of any kind; such as lesions, surgical incisions, keratoses, dark age spots, etc., and what the outcome was? Guest guest
your diagnosed " cellulitis " sounds suspiciously like the problem I had from long-term untreated hypo...with fluid/mucin built up in in the tissue along the sides of my nose, both on the outside and inside. So much fluid/mucin/cellular debris (myxedema) that it had to come " out " through the skin as I healed from hypothyroidism. A little retin-A hurried the job along for me. Hydrocortisone ointment also has helped me with some of these areas...having a drawing effect. cindi > > I'm painting Lugol's on my nose periodically to clear up > residue/swelling from repeat bouts of cellulitis. Guest guest
Let's put it this way... A dab of Retin-A (or Renova) is the only thing that I know for a surety that can draw out 15 plus years of accumulated hypothyroidism mucin/cellular debris from the skin in a relatively short amount of time (2 weeks or less for an area). so for that application, yes...I'd use it again. for anything else, no. cindi >. > > Cindi, being better educated these days, would you still take the Retin-A > after reading the side effects, and knowing it's helpfulness has a lot to do > with being related to Vitamin A? Guest guest
Yes, exactly. What proportions of water, salt & Lugol's do you use for yours? > I trust by that you mean a drop or two of Lugol's in your salt water? I do that for nasal rinsing. You certainly don't want to use too much Lugol's, that could really hurt. > Skipper > >From: " jtb14789 " <jtb14789@...> > >I'm thinking of painting the inside too, but I don't know if that > >will be too strong.
