Guest guest
, I recomend you check out the " thyroidless " forum. You will learn much more about what to take for your thyroid. As far as your goiter goes, Iodoral is what caused it to go away. You stopped it and the goiter came back. I have gotten off of my 150mcg of Levothyroxine and am now on 4grains or Armour. Feeling fantastic. Nadine > > Hi, > > I am new to this website. I was wondering if any of you have any insight into how iodine may or may not effect a goiter. My holistic doctor suggested in Sept. Guest guest
hi - you should read Dr Brownstein's book on iodine. He indicates that when you start iodine your TSH will increase. He says that not to worry, it will go down within six months. He advises to continue to monitor the free t's and if you are not symptomatic , to continue. The reason your tsh, according to him increases, is because one of the other functions of TSH is to send the message to make more TBG. He indicates that when the body is deficient in iodine it stops creating the mechanism that transports it and when you start supplementing, the tsh tells the body to make more sites for it to bond to . I would quote directly from the book , but loaned it to my doc to read. I am hypo (Hashi's) and just took an iodine loading test to determine my levels. I hope to get the results in ten days. I am curious to see if it will improve my health (the use of iodine that is!) Nadine <nadineptaylor@...> wrote: ,I recomend you check out the "thyroidless" forum. Guest guest
It is normal for the TSH to rise when supplementing begins. TSH is used to stimulate the NIS to pull in more iodine. It can stay elevated (as high as 75 ) for up to 6 mos before dropping with no clinical signs of hypothyroidism. You will need to watch clinical symptoms and Free T3 & Free T4 in the mean time. Goiter Question Hi, I am new to this website. I was wondering if any of you have any insight into how iodine may or may not effect a goiter. My holistic doctor suggested in Sept. '07, that I take one, 12.5mg Iodoral tablet once a day. He seemed to think that this would help with my thyroid disease. After being on this for 3 months, plus many other supplements and meds for my Hashimoto's (Levothyroxine), my TSH level rose to 9.2 in Dec., '07. Guest guest
Dear Mike: I had a diagnosis of papillary thyroid cancer in September 2003. I chose to seek alternative treatments before surgery. I have not had surgery, RAI treatments, chemo, nor radiation. Just alternative methods. I just got on Lugol's a few months ago. I believe that three of the cysts/goiters/nodules are smaller and much softer. One 'thing' enlarged but is soft. I had been on other kinds iodine for about 3 years. I unintentionally soon got on a very high dose of Lugol's as I forgot that I had read that Lugol's dosage is different if dripped horizontally rather than vertically. So near horizontally I got up to 175 - 200 mg in about 2 months. Below is the email response from J.Crow Company where I ordered my Lugol's inquiring about the drops. Addie LUGOL'SLugol's is a liquid. Drops can be added to water, juice, soup, wine or scotch and drunk. The correct way to make a drop of Lugol's is to hold the dropper vertical and squeeze the rubber topper. Each VERTICAL drop is 6.25 mg of iodine. Then you can do the math by counting the drops.HORIZONTAL drops - with the dropper held side to side are twice as much - 12.5 mg iodine per drop. How do we know? We measured, a couple times. Why?? Because some of us wanted to know how many drops of iodine are in an ounce bottle. Several of us found out then that we were taking twice the amount of iodine that we thought - because we were using horizontal drops. Guest guest
Please don't do kelp. Most kelp is loaded with halides and arsenic. It is not a good option for getting iodine - especially with your history. I can't speak for getting rid of a goiter since my Dr's took mine out " just to be sure " and it turned out to be thyca and they hit me with 3 RAI's that didn't work until I found Dr. Brownstein and iodine therapy. Guest guest
Thanks Mike. It is a never ending job of learning and trying new things. I enjoy seeing others get well and that is what keeps me going. Steph Re: Goiter question > Thanks , > > I missed the kelp assay in my earlier readings. Guest guest
Thanks Addie, Very promising outlook. The treads about cysts also would indicate good possibilities. Would you mind if I were to ask you some questions off-list related to your condition but not directly to iodine? We definitely things in common. Mike > > > > Please don't do kelp.
