Guest guest
,I did a lot of research into water softeners and filters when we started having problems here. A water softener is not good for you, basically it's adding a lot of salt into your water, not good for you drink at all. A water filter would be the best way to go.LinnOn Sep 20, 2006, at 7:28 AM, Ives wrote:I'm going to see a new doctor myself next month, she is a Broda doc. If she wants to run labs on him, I'll get her to rx. the Lidocaine. I took my sons temp again this morning, it was 96.4, then the second one was 95.9. He's definately low temp, so I'm going to continue looking into this. I have found out that my water is very high in calcium and iron, and I'm looking into a water softener. Iron is very inflammatory, and high calcium imbalances magnesium, zinc and potassium. Its very possible that this is the root cause of all our problems. I was not diagnosed hypothyroid until I lived here for a few years. My daughter is 9 and already hypo, and now my son with the low body temp. I also have 2 horses living here with low body temps, and the only thing similar is the water and air that we share. Its too much coincidence. Guest guest
Thank you Linn! I was desperately trying to find out why water softeners were bad. I think Dr. Brownstein talks about them. Wouldn't reverse osmosis filters be better? I don't have my books from Dr. B - my mom has had them FOREVER!! and I miss having them to look things up in. She has my salt, iodine & miracle of natural hormones. B.My Ebay Auctions: http://tinyurl.com/o9nqvMY SOY CANDLE STORE IS OPEN! Guest guest
I live in the country...and we have very hard water that made cleaning (bathing/washing clothes/etc) impossible as well as spotting on everything...so we Had to get a water softener. Hard water damages applicances (dishwasher/hot water heater) too. I do use that softened water some in cooking...but we buy bottled water to drink...and I did keep the outside faucet not connected to the water softening system, and I do use it some for making iced tea. southerners have to have their good ice tea. the hard water is delicious...the softened water tastes Awful! cindi > > > > > I'm going to see a new doctor myself next month, she is a Broda > > doc. Guest guest
Water softeners are particularly bad for people with existing health problems like high BP and heart disease. Softened water cleans well but it's not good for anyone to ingest. Reverse osmosis filters are good in that they take out everything, but that also includes the good minerals. We ended up putting in an RO filter to get rid of the fluoride here (our fluoride was double the legal limit due to a screw up), but I don't like the way it tastes at all. Loretta (on this list and the altmed list) had recommended a company called Mountain Valley Spring which distributes here so I called them and wow, what a wealth of info they were. We now have spring water delivered each week in glass bottles. It is absolutely delicious. My teenagers have even been drinking it and one of them never drinks water. The distributor here also does whole house filters that get rid of the chemicals and other bad stuff in the water but it's not an RO system. It uses a 4 container filter system, the last one being stainless steel that the water goes through to take out the plastic contaminants. It is the best choice so far of anything I have seen and will solve the cleaning and bathing issues. We will keep the spring water to drink but I will be able to cook with the filtered water and not have to worry about my daughter soaking in all that fluoride through her skin. The guy who owns the distributorship here is a chemist and used to work in the plastics industry but has turned to the other side, so to speak!! They sent me a ton of info on chemicals. It's so good to be able to find people who don't think I'm nuts!! My hubby is even starting to listen more. I always like to remind him, never question your wife's judgement, look who she married......Linn On Sep 20, 2006, at 10:53 AM, ladybugsandbees wrote:Thank you Linn! Guest guest
She recommended a potassium salt, rather than the standard salt that they use (I forget which type it is). YOu mean potassium instead of sodium in water softener? Extra potassium isn't good for those with weak adrenals. I thought most water softening systems now usually also had reverse osmosis filters with a drinking water system to go with it.
